Quick question...

When I bought the Viper the previous owner gave me a load of extras he had with it, which included a box with a brand new set of smooth intake tubes that he had never installed.

Apart from the rather obvious gain in aesthetic appearance of the engine with nice new shiny Smooth Intake Tubes, what are the other benefits of installation?

I'm assuming there is a power gain? What sort of BHP increase would we be talking about? Would it be noticeable? (and if so, am I better off waiting until I'm a little more used to the car before adding even more power to an already extremely powerful car?)

Aparantly its about 10BHP....
Easy to fit as you say also gets rid of the restrictor (bagpipes) when you take the old tubes out..

So... Go for it, with the assumption that another ten horses in there is comparatively not alot when you've already got about 450 under the hood anyway... Or wait until I'm more used to the car?

Always the first mod even DC did it as stock on the GTSR the bellows was only meant to make the intake quiet, and reduce the exhaust noise a tad.

Neil does have a good point if you are going the smooth tubes justcheck there is no rescritor in the airfilter, however if you have a side piped R/T this should not be present.1

The previous owner had started along this line I think, as he had installed K&N filters, but just never installed the tubes, with the replacement filters does this mean that any restrictor would already be gone?

The tubes are, what I can only describe as a polished chrome looking finish, and he mentioned that he was concerned about the metal conducting heat and affecting the performance, I am not sure if this is likely to be an issue or not?

I figured that would be the stock answer, but thought I'd better check... that'll be another job for this weekend then...

I put a K&N cold air system onto mine and on the road can't feel any performance difference so don't worry. K&N claim 14bhp for this so in percentage terms its not very much to notice whilst driving anyway.

Dave,

Check out the VCA 'How To Guides'. Halfway down this list is a download guide which shows angles to cut pipes for best fit on 92-95 RT/10's.

Thanks for the info Nigel, that looks like quite a handy internet page. The pipes I have are already shaped and have all the fixings fitted, so I don't think there is much for me to do except, as Paul said 'slap em on', but if I get stuck it's good to have something to refer to.

Hi There.
I've just bought a K&N cold air intake system but i'm waiting for it to arrive. The picture I saw looks like it replaces the intake hoses, is this right, or do I still need to buy some? I was expecting to buy them anyway, so no worries if I do, just didn't want to waste my money buying some and then the K&N system replaces them anyway.

Cheers guys.

Craig.

On the SRT10 the K&N kit replaces everything up to and including the'concertina' pipe. Not sure about the other models.
