Help Help PCM problems!!
Discussion
First of all no laughing Baz!!! I know you were waiting for something like this
So i recieved my new B&B headers, decats and full system yesterday, fitted everything and then removed the old factory PCM and plugged in the Roe racing PCM that is supposed to eliminate skip shift and engine light.
When i first fired her up she was sweet as a nut, then a few mins later the check engine light came on.
After a few throttle blips and a slow drive a knocking sound became apparent over 2k revs. Most likely because the car has tried to advance its timing. The skip shift hadnt been eliminated either?
I couldnt get into the battery to disconnect it when i removed the old PCM so i took out the PCM fuse and the ignition fuse out the fuse box, then plugged in the Roe racing PCM .
Is the car still trying to retain its factory settings because i havent disconnected the battery before installing the new brain?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

anybody???
i tried re setting it all this morning by disconnecting the cables to the ecu and disconnecting the battery and leaving it for a minute. Then connecting everything back again and pumping the gas a couiple times before turning her over fully. At first the engine light didnt come on but after 2 mins driving it was back on again. The pinking noise is horrible and very loud when under load

hi carl,
lol i know that would be the most sensible option. Ive ordered an odb2 already. Im just puzzled as i was advised that these parts would all bolt on and the performance PCM would be plug and play with no problems??
I searched on ViperAlley and found a post from a noob last year who had the same problems. He installed headers and high flow cats witha Roe PCM and experienced detonation under wot. He changed his PCM back to stock (2000 GTS) and he said the pinking dissapeared...but the check engine lights remained. Obviously due to the PCM not liking the headers.
He was advised that he could get an earlier 96-99 PCM to get rid of the codes or the odb2 which would erase them....
Im going to put my stock PCM back on as my car is a 99 model. Hopefully it will not flash up check engine but if it does ill use the code reader to remove them.
Bit of a rip off paying 500 dollars for a PCM that tries to blow your engine up isnt it?

Spoke to shaun yesterday as I am waiting for the same parts except the PCM and with a stock ecu no check engine light should light, it does sound very strange as normally with a check engine light the car will overfuel for safety unless that has been cut out.
If it was me I would try the stock pcm but disconnect the battery first to reset everything. Car will run not well until about thirty minutes after it has learnt the new settings.

Thats Strange...
Can't see why it would refuse to start.. Silly ? but asking anyhow.. The imob is off???
There is away of dumping the memory on the PCM so it starts all over again....
Diss the poss on the battery and put it to ground to clear PCM (Must be done at the BATTERY)...
Make sure you have your your key fob for when you reconect...
Then Start and go for a drive so the PCM can relearn.....
YOU WILL GET AN ENGINE LIGHT COME ON WITH THE STOCK PCM WITH NO CATS....
Bugger didn't realise caps was on sorry.......

Thanks for that Baz,
I thought it was weird also!! Is there some kind of electric sensor that may tell the fuel pump to halt the supply of fuel due to the changing of PCM's confusing the car? The immob is off lol!
I will be back from London in a week and a bit so ill try it then
