The Corvette boys posted this:-

This topic is going to affect every one of us in one way or another, and most of us directly, so please take the time to read it and go online to sign the petition.

The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it.

The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver.

A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month.

On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit you can expect a NIP ( Notice of Intended Prosecution) with your monthly bill.

If you care about our freedoms and stopping the constant bashing of the cardriver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/

Please also send this to everyone in your address book who might care.

this has been discussed for ages on the main forum.... sure the many that really wouldn't want to get stitched in this way have already come up with the technology that keeps them 5 steps ahead of these trackers.... is it really that difficult to remove the thing and leave it in the garage?... etc.. 'twill of course just add to the masses dumping this country for a better life elsewhere.... what countries have this system already in effect? and will a satellite be able to track a 200mph road rocket?!! rotate

Can you imagine the IT project that would be needed to make this happen?

Things like the London red ken charge are piddely simple compared (count ‘em in flat fee etc) to a national GPS based per mile billing system and that was a pretty major IT achievement.

Alternative, 10p extra on fuel which won’t cost a thing to implement and everyone will lap up when faced with this as an alternative.

I have a large sheet of lead in my workshop.

Or even better do what a criminal does try the bloody thing to a baby.

This is an old thred really I signed ages ago but its gone from 4,000 signatures to about 46,000.

Not sure the IT bill would stop it after all.......we get the bill for that as well.

No the lead sheet is best.

I signed up to this when Paul logged this thread, at which point it was sitting at about 35,500 signatures... less than a month later its currently, at the time of typing this, sat at 149,470!!! And over 5,000 of those signatures have arrived in the last 2 hours... (You can watch it going up by refreshing your screen)...

The numbers of signatures are certainly rapidly increasing... But will it make any difference?? We can only hope!!!!
