The NSRA & NASC together are looking to hire the Shelsley Walsh Hillclimb for a day and use it. They have asked if anyone would be interested in taking their muscle cars up the hill. It is a 1000 yard course going up hill 100m in that distance and 135 mph speeds at the top have been attained by some quick F1 cars and the like.

For this event to work, they need serious support from car owners who want to go, and are prepared to pay the cost of going for the day. The more that go, the cheaper but you may get less runs.

If 40 cars go, then cost will be about £100 per car, 100 cars £40 per car but obviously you will get fewer runs. It's estimated that 40 cars would get at least 5 runs in during the day.

Plan is to have it booked for the Friday before the Hot Rod Drags in September 2007, so it will wrap up into a full weekend. The hillclimb is south west of Birmingham about 25miles or so.
The website is here www.shelsley-walsh.co.uk/index.htm This sounds like a terrific new idea, and there will not be a need for Race Licences etc as it will be hired as a corporate day, rather than a race event, (like RWYB). It will be a chance to do something very different with the cars, remember how good the Cuda and Challenger looked at Goodwood, well this sort of thing will be possible without needing an invite from Lord March.
There are no plans to put an age barrier on the event at present, and planning is in the early stages, hot rods, muscle cars, and modern muscle such as Dodge Vipers will be able to run, possibly even ex Le-Mans cars (viper paul are you reading ?).

I have said I will get back to the NSRA with a guide to response on this, so they get an idea of the popularity, and if it will work.

So whad'yall think?? It would be very different to a show and shine thats for sure, and not alot more money than a RWYB.
Let me know

Paul, when I looked into running one of these corporate days there, SW told me that the runs could not be timed because by doing so, it introduced a competition element & that affected the local agreement & licence thay had been granted for the amount of competition days they could run.
Is this still the case, or are they timing the runs?

Have you seen Shelsley Walsh in the flesh? The track itself is very narrow with limited visibility. There is no run-off at all, if you leave the track you're either straight into the bank or down a 500' drop into the river. It's a hideously frightening course to drive at speed, especially in something as big and fast as a Viper.

No runs will not be timed as it is not a 'Motor Sport Even' But it will still be fun, we even have a couple of Chargers and Challengers lined up.....LOL.

Of course you coul alwasy leave the video running...
