Hi.

I desperately need some help in putting a value on my 1994 RT10.
I have owned this car for 18 months and very sadly some B****** torched it on my driveway. The insurance wouldn't entertain the claim at all as it wasn't in the garage overnight when it happened. However, on a good note, it has not been recorded.
I had a quote to have this repared by a local garage and I would be looking at £15k, including labour.
The things that need replacing are as follows:

The whole interior, ie: seats, dash, pedals etc
The engine is sound as luckily the fire didn't get that far, however it requires a new wiring loom.
It also needs two new doors, unless you're good at fibre glass repairs!

I would like to put an add in the classified section, however firstly I need an idea of what this is worth. Help....Please!!

Thanks,
Sophia x

sadly heard about your car its the yellow/tan with the LOUISE type number plate ? it was the first UK motorshow viper

a few of the needed parts are available in the UK, the remaining parts are available at a cost from the US, recall the wiring harness is mighty expensive somewhere near $1000 on its own I think? I'm guessing it could be put right for less than £15K in the right hands

maybe John H can give you an idea of what its worth there was a 2002 RT that went through a fire which he got back on the road, he's got some experience on this subject

Thanks. I am pretty new to this forum, do you know how I can contact this guy?
I still adore the car but unfortunately, it now holds very bad memories for me. When it was set alight on the driveway it was under my daughters window who was 12 months old at the time and her room was filled with smoke with flames at her window! Every time I look at the car it reminds me of how badly things could have got!

are you definate it was torched and didnt just catch fire?

did they ever catch the culprits?

Thank you so much. I'll get in contact with him. If this one doesn't get repaired by me, I'll definately be buying another. What a car!

Hi Benno.
No, it was definately torched! There were still firelighters etc around the car. It happened a year ago last Saturday, which was obviously a day someone was proud of and I found out who had done it!!!!!

I bought a 93RT10 with very low mileage on it, bubble top and side screens for under 20k a couple of years ago.

If yours needs £15k spending it might only be worth £2-5k but it probably is worth that in parts alone.

My advice would definately be to advertise it on ebay and you might be suprised as it only takes somebody with the repair skills or somebody needing the parts to see it.

I was hoping to find someone who would be interested in fixing it themselves as the price the garage quoted me was mostly labour. On the estimate, there was only £4k of parts

In which case, try it on ebay with a detailed description, detailed photos and the list of parts needed to fix. I think you might do quite well from it.

I guess an enthusiast might look at it as needing 4k worth of parts and worth 20k post fix and might pay more for it than anybody else looking at a 15k repair cost.

What are you hoping to get for it?

I'm not really sure to be honest! Someone who looked at the car said they thought it would be worth about £10k and I have no idea of what a car like this in this condition sells for hence the thread

I would take the 10k. I paid £18k (sold for £23k in 2004) for my 94 RT10 and it was mint with only 1600 miles on clock!!

With fire history its probably worth sub 20k fixed so the offer isnt unreasonable.

It wasn't an offer. It was a guy from a garage who had come to have a look at it with a view to repairing it for me. I asked what he thought it was worth. I think I am going to have a look at the cost of the parts in America tom, failing that, I may take a very deep breath and take my chances on ebay x

I went to look at an NSX and saw the Viper so asked how much he wanted for it and when 18k was said it made my mind up.

I think the value of Vipers is linked to the US price levels, i.e. US Car price + import tax + Shipping + SVA + TAX.

This seems to make an RT10 worth £18-22k entry level or a GTS £27-28k minimum.

If this car has been damaged and needs £15k worth of professional repairs then that makes it worth circa £3-7k, to a enthusiast with the skills however it could be worth as much as £12-15k if parts would only cost £4k and his time is free.
