Look Who's Coming to the UK
Discussion
Dear Paul,
Ivan Ho (not the knight!) over in Miami gave me your email address. Ivan
runs the South Florida VCA division as you may already know. We met last
November at the World Offshore Powerboat Championships which are held
annually in Key West.
The reason for this email is to introduce myself and let you know what I'm
up to, just in case we can do something together later this summer.
I'm in the process of having a 43' Scarab monohull raceboat fitted with a
pair of Dodge Viper V10 motors with the intention to race it initially in
the USA and then, from August onwards, over here in the UK and Europe.
The engines are have been 'marinised' by Ilmor Inc over in Michigan with
full consent from Dodge and DaimlerChrysler and, to date, they've sold over
200 units to the high-performance pleasure market in the States. This,
however, will be the first time the engines have been used in racing
conditions even though they are to Ilmor's production spec and rated at 625
BHP apiece.
We plan to do two 'shakedown' events in Florida in early July and then ship
the raceboat over to the UK for its debut at the Cowes Powerboat P1 Festival
over the August Bank Holiday. The long term plan is to keep the boat here
over the winter months and contest the full 2007 Powerboat P1 World
Championship season with races in Germany, Italy, the UK, Portugal, Spain
and Malta.
In the States, in order to receive approval to race with the latest snake's
head logo, we're going to carry Viper Club of America decals. Naturally I
would like to carry similar decals here in the UK, substituting the word
'America' perhaps for 'Europe'.
We have some time before the boat arrives here while over in Florida, we're
about a month away from testing. It would be good if we could stay in touch
as this project may have some appeal to you and the Viper members.
Best regards,
Chris Witty
