Hello there,

My 1997 Viper GTS went for recall work this week and they told me I had an oil leak which was coming from the rear crank case seal, this doesn't sound too good to me but can any of you guys shed some light on it for me, i.e. Where I can get it done, what work needs doing and how much its going to cost me roughly?

Thanks alot.

Craig.

Make sure first it's not coming out the dip stick pipe and trickling down to the base of the engine? Mine is always doing this, particularly if I push the revs up. I've tied my dip stick down now and sealed with an O ring to help.

Of course, I could be way off the mark!

The parts are probably reasonably priced (for a Viper). As an indicator Chuck The Wizard Tator quoted me around $180 for Rear crank seal plate and gasket and around $140 for the Oil pan (sump) gasket - less VCA discount plus shipping for my 94 GenI RT/10.

The biggest cost will probably be labour - identifying the problem, stripping and re-fitting. As the others have said if you have access to a ramp it would probably be worth trying to trace the source of the leak yourself (or at least eliminate the sump / dipstick as causes).

Hi Guys,

As usual you have all been a great help and Baz that would be really great if it fit mine, if it doea let me know how much you want for it and we'll sort that out! It has been discovered that it is the rear crank seal. I had the sump gasket changed today and the dipstick checked and both are fine but car is still leaking a little oil so must be the crank seal Also i've been told my front break disks and pads need replacing soon, any ideas of price and where I can get them from over here in the UK? Thanks once again guys, I really appreciate the help.

Craig.

Hello once again,

I've had a look on parts rack and i'm now deciding on which pads to get, are the Mopar ones any better then the EBC? If not, which EBC give the best performance and longest life for street use, i'm presuming the Redstuff?

Cheers guys.

How did you find the red stuff pads, were they that bad you only did 200 miles before getting rid of them?

Hey up ladies and gents,

New brakes and pads are on their way. EBC Discs and Mintex pads from AWESOME in Irlam, did me a fantastic price on them and pretty good delivery too. Not usually a Viper supplier or anything like that, but if you ask them for something the guys do their best to get it for you and at great prices too! Also done a bit of work on my Viper too and had it on the rolling road there, place is very highly recommended and can't go wrong with the service or any of the guys there. They also do interet orders too with great deals and REALLY fast shipping (couple of days usually from when they receive the products). Check them out!

They don't make EBC Blues as they would be so fast they would never stop, but if they did they would be the most popular
