Just thought I`d post this for some of you speed freaks out there.

THE WORLDS FASTEST INDIAN.............Go see.......your LOVE IT!

This film has now come to the U.K , but was out in N.Z about 6 months ago, you may have already seen some clips to give you a taste, but even if you hate bikes like me (except Mountain Bikes) you`ll be blow away by this true story about a true speed nut, I loved the film so much a paid to see it 3 times! Words do not do this film justice, and having walked and driven and seen for myself the places where Munro used to race in N.Z it made the film even more special. There is a book on the way (Bought a copy when in N.Z) about Burt Munro and it`s a fantastic read. The film may seem a bit far fetched but after reading the book about Burt and being lucky enough to have met a few people who remembered / met him there are some fantastic ,almost un believeable storys about him.If you ever thought that getting to 40 years was the begining of the end, then watching this film, it will make you think again! Burt was racing his home built special at almost 200 mph until his mid 70`s (Joel will love this film)so there`s hope for us all!
On a final note, the film is based around his first trip to Bonneville with his bike (he was over 65 at the time!!) in 1962 and so out of interest I dug out my copy of HOTROD mag from that year of the speed trials and what I read just blew me away. Besides all the usual stuff about speeds on the salt that year there was a few words about Burt. The editor of HOTROD mag way back in 1962 (some 44 years ago) wrote this "the story of Burt Munro and his Indian is one that is so amazing they should make a film about it"....Well they did, and a bloody fantastic one it is.
Make the time to watch it and I bet you think of it as the one of the best 2 1/2 hrs you`ve had sat on you bott!
As for me, I plan to see it a few more times!

And just for the record Burt`s speed record from the 1960,s STILL stands unbroken to this day!

Your love it Baz, it`s a film that will make you laugh and cry. Plus A.Hopkins plays the part perfectly, even Burt Munro`s son has sad it was like watching his real Dad. I don`t think your see another film based of this kind of true story for a very very long time. It`s a classic in my book! Sorry for going on about this film As you have guessed by now , I like it...a lot! It`s a shame we can`t have a Viper Club viewing of the film, with some soda and pop corn!

Thanks Tom, just ordered the book, should get it in a day or two. May not get to see the movie but will look out for it on DVD. BTW, just read an excellent book....."Two sides of the Moon" by David Scott and Alexei Leonov, which is their story of the cold war space race. An excellent read, I was part of their world for several days whilst I read it and was sad to come to the end of the book. Recommended !

Thanks for that Joel, Will try and find a copy on e-bay.
The film is worth seeing if you get the chance (A speed freek like yourself would loveit).I read the book a few months ago and I rate is highly, the time and lack of money spent on that Indian engine is almost unreal, everything on that Bike was handmade, he even made his own high profile racing cams by hand/eye on an old lath from scrap metal! I think your enjoy reading the teck side of the book, but do try and see the film if you can Joel! nuff said! see ya soon,Tom

Started the book earlier, so far sounds interesting.

Ready to read a bit more, so hot chocolate brewed up, slippers on, pipe lit, radio 3 playing in the background and settled into my favourite armchair.

Oops....thought I was Neil for a minute there

watched the film last night with Spud and Nad, no slippers for me though really entertaining and inspiring great story where the guy waited 25 years to live his dream on the salt flats, makes you want to fly out for a visit !

loved the scrutineering no brakes,no chute,no leathers,no extinguisher, 20 year old cut crazed tyres, also the part where he tucked his trousers into his socks for safety

did a bit of surfing today on the guy, quite an amazing acheivement steadily modifying his bike and making his own parts in his shed over a number years and going on the break the speed record at his age (68) 200+ mph on a 1920's 900cc Indian and shoe-string budget

recommended for any petrolhead thumbup
