A "friend" I know is planning on driving a "car" from the docks with , "Fake Plates",No MOT , NO INSURANCE, NO CAR REG DOCUMENTS AND NO ROAD TAX. Anyone know what fine they could get if caught?, or would Mr Plod send them on there way with a thick ear?.....anyone?
I warned my "friend" it sounded a bit risky! What do you all think?

if your friend is a heating engineer covering the cost of any fine wouldnt be a problem !

with current fines expect either a £12 payment or a holiday in Hawaii depending on the judge

I'd avoid the fake plates better to have none I'd say, under the cover of darkness

recall Skunk drove all over the West coast US then went home from London to Ireland running 'Skunk' plates

I did the same thing when importing the viper other than insurance which is a must.Try and insure it using the vin number and forget dodgy plates, just leave the foreign plate on and don't drive too quick.

Think you can drive from docks to home "once" without plates, tax or mot, but you must have insurance. With no insurance, you'll be crucified if you have an incident. Maybe safer to have the car trailered to its destination. Do we know the renegade who is thinking of doing this ?

I also drove mine back from Southampton docks like that no plates, tax etc. I wasn`t worried as I did have the paperwork from the shipping agent to prove it had just arrived in the UK off the ship. I had to get the car home somehow.

Just need insurance really if you still have an NZ registration and test, as a visitor to the UK you would be allowed to do this for six months.

No insurance on a car like that, got a Porsche driver with that one, in court he pleaded n/g and ended up with a 2000 pound fine and banned from driving for six months.

If you can get insured and go the NZ route.

Good luck to your 'Friend'

No insurance is highly illegal and will certainly carry a ban and a hefty fine, if caught. Heaven knows if there is an accident own fault or not.

I've wanted to ask about the same thing. As I understand it, you can drive the car without any MOT or UK plates in order to get it back from the port. The question I have is about getting insurance - how easy is it to get insurance just for the journey back from the dock, without any UK documentation?

You just insure the car on the Vin number then advise the insurance later of its number plate.

BTW, driving it from the docks is still illegal, so if you ever get pulled pass the attitude test, explaining to the nice officer that its your right is likely to get you a ticket but most pc's are pretty understanding. They will argue though that having no MOT or SVA would invalidate your insurance should you have an accident, therefore you would be stuck on for no insurance, MOT or SVA plus any infingments of the SVA test such as lights etc

The only right you have is driving from your home to an MOT or SVA station, and the appointment must be pre-booked.
