After some investigation today (thanks Paul ) it looks like I'm in need of a new wheel bearing. I'll be calling Chrysler UK on Monday to get a price, but notice the information above. With the 20% discount this looks quite good.

Any idea how much shipping on this item is to the UK? I guess it's quite heavy? It's for a 1997 GTS.

Also, is it worth replacing both fronts at the same time (as I'll be replacing the discs both sides)?

Chuck - how much is a stock brake disc (rotor) too?

Cheers

Let me ask you a couple of questions: Are you replacing the wheel bearings because they are noisy or just loose/play in them? If loose/play in them you may be able to re-torque the bolt/spindle to 150 ft lbs. To check the front bearings, have you rotors off and hand spin them to feel/hear a noise with them.

Stock GENII Front Rotors #4642122 MSRP $141.00 each USD [less 20% + Shipping] shipping on the rotors to the UK has been right around $50 each!
Shipping on the bearings has been right around $25.00 each.

I have a set of Gen II rotors I have no use for if that helps??

I have less than 9000 miles on them with calipers too if any one needs them off a 2001 GTS

Well Chuck it looked like a disc as Grahams were well worn guess -50 thou on recomended and loads of small cracks but having fitted one of mine guess its front wheel bearing no play but noisey as hell when you walk by the car.

Told Big G drive it home and get a front w./B

Then back to 8 Swift Close to fit it

Hi Chuck,
As Paul says, there is no play that we could detect, but it makes a horrible graunching noise on each wheel rotation. Not so noticeable at speed, but below 20mph, it's embarrasing to drive through town! We replaced the disc which made no difference and concluded it could only be the bearing.

When spinning the hub by hand, we couldn't hear any noise. Also, the noise is most noticeable on a right hand turn or ina straight line, left bands quieten it down.

I'll check local prices tomorrow and let you know. Thanks for the advice...

Put a new disc and wheel bearing on my car but the thing still squeaks at low speed around town.
Are the rear brakes on these prone to squeaking at low speed?

Hi Jason,
The rear brakes don't usually squeak, most of the time it's from the front. Are the pistons in the front calipers moving freely, i.e. can you bush them in by hand? If not, that may drag the front pads and make them squeak? My 2 cents/pents [not sure on spelling].

Larry it sounds very similar to the situation I have although mine is not a grinding noise just an annoying squeak.
It is defiantly the rear drives side wheel sounds like the discs warped but this has been changed along with the bearing and there has been no improvement. All the brakes are free no binding at all and the noise goes away when you pull the handbrake on when driving.

Still *way* cheaper than sourcing the part in the UK. Thanks Chuck

Hate to think what a brake disc would cost then! Best double check this.
