hi
i have been viewing a rt/10 today. it,s a 96 the only thing putting me off buying it is some blisters in the paint on the cills between the wheel arches and the start of the sidepipes.is this a common fault? is it caused by heat from the exhaust if so what is the remedy? the owner wants 27,500 for it (22k miles hard and soft tops)does the price sound right?
it has sliding windows which can be removed does this make it a gen 1 or gen 2
thanks
steve

Does the exhaust exit the rear???
Its a common problem on the early vipers to blister and can be repaired then painted,Or you can get copy parts from a UK member in fibreglass..
Open the drivers door and look on the side and that will tell you what year it is or you could just get the 10th digit from the vin No and that will tell you the year as well..
It will be a gen 1

hey Baz I guess 'sidepipes' doesnt mean rear exit
but OE 1996 RT's should be rear exit with smooth sills, does it have 3 or 5 spoke wheels ?

Bubbling is a known fault which was refectified on the gen2 (not sure which year it was put right without checking, 98?) its caused by bi-metal corrosion of the aluminium sills and the heatshields fixings inside the sill, on the gen2 the heatshield were bonded instead which resolved the problem. Once the corrosion has started its seems quite difficult to stop
