I've owned my '96 RT-10 here in California now since April. In the new year I'm planning on coming back to the UK, taking the car with me. I've been looking how to get it shipped over. I'm looking for companies who are, a) reliable and, b) affordable (although I appreciate that both together may not be possible!). The first quote I've got is from a company called Kleerfreight Ltd based in Kent for approx. $5000. This seems quite a lot to me. What experience have others had getting A viper shipped to the UK? Any advice appreciated!

There's x3 UK members that brought vipers back from CA recently, could find out who they used

Take it the pricing is for a container, if so $5K doesnt sound to bad. Its a much longer trip than shipping from Florida. Make sure you have all the correct paperwork sorted, you dont want your car sitting in the docks paying 'storage fees' while everything gets sorted

I paid around £1000, car delivered to Southampton. Shared a container with a Mustang, so well secure - not ro-ro. Picked up car in St Louis, drove it to Miami on temp tag, collected it from Southampton few weeks later. Reckon I could get the price down a bit now I know more. Depends if you want to save money, or pay someone else for doing something quite easy (a bit of driving, and internal flights to take you back where you started from). Don't think I'd pay someone an extra £4k to transport a car from California to Florida - it's only 2250 miles of driving, and can be done in 3-4 days of not too hectic driving.

Although driving the car to esat coast would be fun, I'm reluctant to do it since I want to keep the miles down on the car (it's got 18k on it now) and, being a leaky RT-10, the possibility of rain isn't appealing. I'd rather get in transported to the east coast or leave from a west coast port. Any further info on good shipping companies would be useful though for research purposes.

I'm not sure that it makes a difference whether it's a Viper or another make/model. I've shipped my pickup and SUV back from Oakland using Triax International. This was a couple of years back; each vehicle was less than a thousand $$ in a shared container from Oakland (I dropped them off at Triax myself), plus shipping insurance (2.5% of value) and a couple of hundred £ to the import/customs agent - I collected from Felixstowe and arranged my own conversion work and SVA. Hope this helps, it certainly cost me a lot less than five grand

Hamish,

You don't seem to be very forthcoming with details as to who quoted you the $5000 to ship you Viper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you yet another one who is full of s*** about owning a Viper!!!!!!!!

Supply the VIN number and I will give you details of a company who will ship for $1000 from the West Coast.

Best Regards.

What's your problem? And why do you need the VIN number to give me the details of a company that will ship my car?

Try Wallenius Wilhelmsen for shipping.....they are the world's biggest shippers of cars and I have used them for 3 cars and a pickup in the last 5 years and every time they have been both cheap and brillian service. Baltimore to Southampton or Liverpool is about £500 so I would guess double that for West Coast. They are at

www.2wglobal.com/www/WEP/index.jsp

and do Ro-Ro.
