right, i've spent too long scouring the net and wondering.... so excuse me if this sounds a little nieve: is it possible to drive a
Gen 3 GTS-R legally on the roads? doesn't seem to be any pics etc of one on a public highway, even on US sites....
is is because they cost a ton (+ would cost a load more to modify to comply with road requirements):

(and don't look that comfortable inside! - i know this is a gen 2 but guess the latest model doesn't look to dissimilar...: )

+ found these snipits on my cyberflight that might be interesting..:

+ saw there's a comparison report in one of the american car mags in whsmith: srt10 vs c6 vs gt40

hang on, just found this:

that looks ok!

There's bound to be someone (BAZ) trying soon if the VCA raffle prize goes to a non racer or collector.

TBH i don't think now that they have brought out the coupe SRT it would be worth the hassle of trying to get a comp coup road legal. Yes the CC has more extreme styling but then i doubt it will be long before there are body kits to turn a coupe into a lookalike CC.

I expect it would be a voyage of discovery trying to get a CC through SVA as i doubt anyone has a clue as to what would be required until they try, but things like the front splitter and visibility of rear lights are fairly obvious and expensive things to resolve and by the time you do you would probably end up with something looking like a SRT coupe anyway.

What we really need is DC to step up to the plate and add some horses to the SRT, get a factory backed team into LM etc and go kick some chevy ass. With Aston, Ferrari, corvette and viper LM racing plus the LMP classes LMES,ALMS and LM could replace F1 quite easily as top of the motorsport tree with all the F1 crap at the mo.

having seen loads of them up close there would be plenty to do to convert a CC to UK road legal car, that pic above for instance would fail a SVA, toggle switches aren't allowed . Other things like harnesses, spoilers, sharp edges, lights, tyres etc would have to be addressed. These cars dont have a VIN, so more paperwork/hassle but I think it could be done here.

other than those sort of things I'm not sure how streetable such a car would be, it sits extremely low to the ground with tough suspension, it may be a total nightmare to drive on anything other than a motorway or A-road. When all is said and done, I know I'd fancy one and there is a CC running the streets in florida !

I may be wrong but as an ex plod it would be impossible to ever register a car without a VIN number.

The vehicle would have no type approval or classification stickers, perhaps it may be possible if the car was shipped minus wheels and other parts it would then become a kit car and could possibly be registered on the Chassis build number.

It would be intesting to do though but on UK roads with race suspension, no save it for the track.

Whats the interest then? Everyone knows as its white the VCA raffle car will end up in my garage.

I sure you can apply for a VIN, sometime back Colin was telling me it was quite easy, remember his couple of full size replica vipers. Maybe its was done using a donar car and its VIN ?

If Colin can get a few cars road legal that he made from scratch in his kitchen the CC has got to be fairly do-able, if I win it will be shipped straight up North

so no good on our notoriously 'smooth' roads then....

hmmm perhaps the style and engine tweaks aren't worth the hike up to $129000 (+ some for one a non racer can actually get hold of - second hand..).. but i do like the low roof and space craft styling the SRT doesn't quite seem to achieve... a new line in body kits for colin i guess

Finally got some time to do some writing.
All you guys are right, it would be quite a bit of work but not impossible. I am going to have to take some bits off and add others to get it through, but until the car gets here I cannot list all the mods.

The chassis number is less of an issue with the SVA. You can make up your own chassis number and call it anything you like. There is a bit more to it that that but I will tell you all about it when it arrives
