Hi there!

I am planning to accept a contract in the US and guess what would be the car I'd love to buy... I will have to say goodbye to my beloved TVR but it will be for a good reason. Then, in a couple years time I could bring a good Viper back to UK.

My question is if they will insure my new Viper (the US insurance company) with my european driving license (lets say after only a couple of months living there) or they will ask me to pay an unbelievable premium (by the way I am 30 and have 7 years NCD).

Do you have any experience with insurances in the US? If not, do you know someone that has?

Regards,
Javier

mostly brits in the UK on here but if you haven't found it already you may get your answers with a US based response on the main VCA site here

When you bring it back though, insurance can be quite good for such a performance car (£500-£1000) seems to be the usual range, depending on circumstances obviously

Phil a guy in the club took his euro viper to Florida with him and insured it over there, he found out your past UK driving history isnt worth a bean they will insure you as a novice, and is costly on a viper think he was paying triple what he paid in the UK.

He took the florida driving test, a couple of laps around a car park

Yeah, that was exactly what I was asking. Thanks Viper for the answer. So I think I could be facing more than £2000

Thanks for the answer. I will check the web you mention. I know that insurances in the UK can be quite reasonable for such a car (£600 for my Cerbera at the moment).

I moved to the USA in 1997. Bought a Viper in 2001 - insured it with Gieco (online too!).

British NCD worth nothing at all - although noted on the account (next years' premium reduced).

Paid approximately $3800 USD/annum.

Single incident - chap reversed into me damaging the bonnet. Geico rep on site next day with cheque (check) payable to me - not garage for approx. $23,000.00 USD.

New hood (gen 2) worth $19,500.00 (not even primed) - apparently RTM (resin transfer mold) is expensive to produce because of its heat resistent properties and tensile strength etc. And, no, its not plain ol' fibre glass.

Use GEICO or Progressive. The others may quote you less - but good luck if you have to make a claim!.

Hope this helps.

BTW:
Fact: The Viper hood (gen2) is the second largest RTM single molded piece - the first being on the NASA Space Shuttle.
