Great effort from Team Viper!
Great effort from Joel, 5th Overall and highest top speed of 200.2 mph
Evo,s Won the Team Prize and Keith Cowie became TOTBIV champ(thank goodness Rocket Ron didn,t win again!)
The fastest 1/4 mile was a mind bending 9.38@160mph!
Joel smashed the U.K Viper record again with a 10.7 @ 130mph? Not sure if that speed is correct as something in the 140,s would seem correct.
Well Done to all!

Great efforts and how times have changed!, just a couple of years back we saw just a few 10 sec runs and now some cars are knocking on the 8 sec door
Well done team Viper, well done Joel!
Second behind Joel in top speed honours was a Scooby at 199 mph!
Would have loved to have been there!
Any news on the rest of the Viper Team? would be nice to hear some more Viper times.

Firstly big thanks to Barry and Neil for the support van, and all your help; also cheers to the other UK Viper members that lended a hand in pushing the snakes in the pitt lanes so the motors could take some cool-off time between runs, both Sat and Sun.

Great to finally see the weather allow us some dry track time this year! Joel and Skunks first out 1/4 run of 10.8 at Pod was met with much rewarding excitement (and many a comment can't wait to tell Tom!!). We both made 4 runs each at the Pod Mopar Nats, before we had to leave for the journey to York, Joels terminal speed was one of the highest for the day, think his highest 1/4 run over the weekend at the traps has shown 148 mph! At Pod we managed to stage against each other for all 4 runs, Naughty managed 11.3 (and bedding in a rebuild gear box) and I was chuffed to cross the line ahead of Skunk on 2 of 4 runs(!)...I can get off the line pretty smart, but...when Skunk pulled us..."F*** that was fast"...we'd be approaching the 1/4 traps and all off a sudden there was a black streak that flew past us as if we were stood still!! Amazing, great racing, thanks, I Loved it .

TOTB was as usual over crowded with spectators, so bad in the pitts you couldn't see where the car ques were, to line up! Trying to drive through a sea of wandering people, that seem to think they are more entitled to be there than the cars in the pitts, aint any fun (especially with a full ceramic clutch)! Later it was even worse as the litter built up too, (scooped up by front splitter)! Anyway, Joel took away 3 trophies with his 200 mph run which was awesome to see, well done. And we did some good times on the handling course, which was tight (2nd gear max!). I'll have to check times, but winning 4WD Evo was 31.2s, Joel 33.something sec, and N 34.5(I think) sec, sorry didn't hear from other Vipers what their times were! There was more to come from N on the handling circuit, but I was struggling to balance stock suspension which had him wallowing around and I took it to the limit, pushing just a little too hard with a big spin out on my final run (sure the camera loved that one!).

Hmm, now on to my top speed results, sadly not for me! I was running strong, then about 4800 rpm in 5th he suddenly felt flat, I glanced at the air/fuel...13:1 rapidly approaching 14:1 (way to lean)...WOT, full boost...S**T...I lifted QUICK! He was mis-firing bad over the line, and we limped back (me in a worried state). I couldn't be sure if it was a fuel or spark issue, so I went out on another run for diagnostic purposes, same again, fuel pressure was hardley down 2 psi (fluctuation at the rail anyway), water injection flow meters not coming on though, hmm, I'm thinking electrical gremlins, ECU's etc, etc, made a 3rd run this time with data logger for an insight, still running off. Parked up and went to cheer Spud on in the shoot out, and prize giving. Then it was time to leave...around 8pm think it was...we got home 7am! Was still off cylinders, so pulled in first services, dumped ECU / reflashed (convinced now a program prob) and while checking every thing (nice to be able to do so without a swarm of people and stupid questions) noticed the boost line to the ECU had blown! Ahhh, problem solved...yes but not! Went down the road after a fix, still running on 9...pulled in again, pulled plugs...fouled wet one replaced...still on 9...think I've perhaps burnt a valve or piston have to say I'm gutted! Think I should get some sleep first, don't ever get enough of it...

Thanks again to all, and looking forwards to seeing more pics.

Thanks Nad for your time spent typing out all this info when you would rather be tucked up in bed!!
Sorry to hear of your engine probs but at least you managed to make a great personal best time,11.3 is seriously quick, well done!
Joel, well done on your Trophy,s after all the time ,money and effort and rain offs it,s fantastic to see you get your / Skunks just rewards!WELL DONE you old spudder you.It seems to me with a very very impressive 148mph in the 1/4 mile at the pod but "only" a 10.8 to match (don,t get me wrong thats a fantastic record that will be very very hard to beat and could stand for some time) without seeing your run I would guess traction is a major problem,If you can stick some Drag Radials like M/T or Hoosiers you must be in niffing distance of the 9,s .Look forward to seeing what you can do with some proper rubber under the Skunk! And one day promise me your do me the honour of racing me in the Venom on the 1/4, the thought of having my bot whipped with 1000bhp (and judging from Nads comment) sounds mind blowing!
Now do us all a favor, get some sticky radials and show us what you can really do....stop playing with us!

Carl

188MPH not bad for your first time?
I,d say that was FANTASTIC!!,very very impressed that you ran so close to the 190,s,
Well Done! With that kind of terminal speed you must have a Viper that can get into the high ten,s or low eleven,s? What did you manage on the 1/4 Carl?

Hi Nad, Sorry to hear you might hove broken naughty, but look on the bright side at least you got there this year and got to run.
I on the otherhand didn't due to turbo failure on Friday I knew it was close to blowing but was hoping to get it thru Elvington before having to replace it. Just waiting for the new one to arrive from the US now.

just back from Baz's after another great weekend, cool to witness both Skunk run and Naughty get new PB's at Santapod Congrats espicially after the rain offs all year, although it looked like rain was due this weekend, it held off when it mattered.

1st run at Santapod:
Spud said he'd 'take it easy' his first 1/4 mile run since the mods and not sure what to expect. The lights changed, he seemed to have a hard time getting traction off the line even though he was running BFG drag radials, Nad as usual made a great start and got a couple of cars length in front and pulled away, while Joel waited for the tyres to grip...around 75% of the tarmac covered and Nad was still maintaining her lead when Skunk seemed to go into wrap drive and closed the gap very quickly and then flew past N. That last section was truely amazing to watch, which gave a 10.8 and a terminal speed 147mph WOW must of been one of the fastest that day

Nad got quicker each run and ended up at 11.3 before we had to pack up and leave for TOTB. I jumped in with Spud for the trip North, for my first modded Skunk cruise, nice and relaxed on the motorway no fuss, no nonsense just like a 'normal' viper except a different exhaust note, and a lovely whistle from the SC. Just a couple of neck braking bursts of speed en route upto 70 mph of course

We arrived to a wet Elvington track at 6pm, it was raining and it continued to drizzle all night (we were camping). In the morning it was overcast and cold, cars were arriving and we could see the queues building up outside, big crowds once again

Through out the day everyone ran pretty consistant times, great entertainment watching Carl (his first ever track event in the viper) give his S/C GTS the beans off the line on pilot sports, the car snaking up the track, time for some sticky'er rubber bit of a shock I think for Carl as he lined up to next to Nad doing a smokey burnout to heat the tyres Steve was happily doing run after run, Arthur and his son were having fun to in the SRT, Arthur said his 18 year old was running faster 1/4's

During the afternoon it was announced Spud had cracked the 200 barrier on his first and only top speed run, and was leading overall - 200.2mph luckly the subaru from Iceland (not the frozen food people) was stuck at 199mph. The Caulder supra last years winner was playing up with numerouus problems a broken prop shaft meant it didnt manage a top speed run. The sun finally came out and the track warmed up.

Into the 1/4 rear wheel drive shootout finals, Spud qualified as one of the fastest 4 finalists, the other being the supra and turbo'd bussa dax, the 4th spot guy didnt make it in time, so Spud had a by straight into the final. So in the semi it was supra v dax, the mighty speed pushed the supra into the final...

The final came. Skunk in the right hand lane got his best start I'd seen all weekend, finally taming the wheelspin and sharply set off down the 1/4, must of been a great 60 time, leaving the supra who had bogged down on the line slightly. It looked good for viper victory !!! until 4th gear change, Spud unfornately cocked it up and the Supra on the power sneaked in at the line, beating Skunk by .1 of a second. Trophies were dished and Spud and Skunk came away with 3 shiny lumps of metal, for the fastest attained although I beleive when the figures are worked there will be at least one more on the mantlepeice

A great effort from everyone involved, and lots of new club records acheived

pics of the weekend in a bit

I think we need to put these results into some sort of perspective here. I wasn't at TOTB (thrashing a BMW around Snetterton ) but was at Santa Pod. OK, so Joel wasn't the fastest car of the day, but certainly within the top 6 or 7 cars we saw. What makes it amazing is that Joel (and Nad) drive their cars for hours on end to get to these events - all the other 'faster' cars were specialist drag racers, not road machines. With huge drag radials and the custom builds, you could never compete.

I suspect the same is true at TOTB, especially from what I remember last year. Fantastic 'Jap Turbo Nutter Barges' that are blindingly quick for 10 minutes before something blows, snaps, falls off or completely obliterates itself. And I wonder how many of these machines turned up on the back of a trailer?

At the end of the day, you'll see the Viper's drive home ready for another day. That's what makes them so special.

Nice one guys 'n gals

your absolutely right Graham I spent 12 hours travelling, Nad, Joel and Steve did lots of miles to get there all the 'top' cars are no where near road legal even though they have tax disc, mots etc some didnt even have mirrors and you wouldnt dream of taking them on the road. The big runners are all tuner based, the caulder team for instance came with a car transporter which looked like a donar car to take bits off when the race car broke, which it did frequently.. the 199mph Subaru had a team of around 12 guys looking after it through out the day, but its all legal for TOTB everyone knows what they are up against.

Maybe its time for a separate 'public only' event entirely, but there are plenty of them around, the banning of trailoring, a tuner/homemade split or something like that...

Its the same with the Speed events I drove 200 miles to get to Goodwood to compete against a load of circuit cars delivered on trailers, makes you feel really smug though when you kick ass.

This weekend I was racing at Loton and was pipped by a tenth of a second by a 964 RS. Must try harder !!!!!

Great to hear that Vipers seem to be doing really well in different speed events nationwide, hope your car is not too serious Nad.

Why does Joel look so small in these pics? And why does he look like he's dressed as a Jedi knight?
It also looks like he has got no legs, just a big black pyramid with his body on it

Tom,'The Rocket' didnt win because he didnt compete, not sure if this is true so don't quote me but I heard a rumor he had some engine damage at the GT Battle event at Rockingham just a few weeks ago.

I'm sure if he had entered as usual he would of been up there though with the big players

Hi venom500

I ran the day with my pilots which is why my performance was so poor Maybe
Only managed a 12.45 with a 130mph pass

Top speed was fair though

I would like to try the quarter with the BFG drag radials like Joel used
