Chaps, I'm interested in buying an 1100bhp twin-turbo viper.
I want her to replace my daily runabout, the twin-turbo 3000GT. Still waiting for my 1000hp supercharged Cerbera to be completed, so need something to fill the gap.

Whats it like driving these beasts on the road, especially with the left hand drive situation...

any views greatly appreciated!

(and if you drive with ease, whats the average mpg you can pull?)

dont think you'll get the answers your looking for here, as I dont believe there is anyone with that setup in the UK

try this site www.viperalley.com/ubbthreads.php
they have quite a few members with twin turbo's, I bet there are some for sale

driving on the left seems strange at first but you get used to it after some seat time

Thats cool, theres already one here, its still going through some work, but I can pick it up if I intend to.

silly questions I know but just wandering:

1. Does it keep you warm on cold days?
2. Do you have ground clearance issues?
3. Is the boot big enough?
4. Is she a doddle to drive on motorways?

1. Does it keep you warm on cold days?

You’ll be lucky to keep cool. The heater has two settings, cook and freeze. I quite often drive around on cook with the windows open to hear the noise from the exhaust. Pure music.

2. Do you have ground clearance issues?

Not really providing your sensible and don’t try to mount a speed hump at more than a crawl, shouldn’t have any problems with legal speed humps (4”) as there is 5” clearance under the side sills and just over 4” at the very front. Just don’t try it at 30MPH.

3. Is the boot big enough?

What do you want to carry? a trip to tescos shouldn’t be a problem unless you regularly fill a large trolley. You can get 6 bags of sand from B&Q in if you want. You probably couldn’t get in the chest of draws that granny no longer needs though. So it all really depends on the shape of what you want to carry but you can get quite a bit in if you can pack it.

4. Is she a doddle to drive on motorways?

Yep 80 MPH pretty much at idle in 6th, hard bit is keeping the speed down. Having said that given the choice on a long journey we usually select the corvette for is quieter exhaust and cruise control etc.

Don’t know how 1100 BHP would be though as I have a measly 460

Thanks Dave!

I'm like 75% sure I'm going for this one...
Its got ABS electric windows, carbon/kevlar roof... its an RT/10 maxx'd up... the viper red, no stripes... which I prefer, less of a 'in your face I'm fast' type thing...

Now my big question is, on motorway miles, how many miles can you get with say a £60 fillup? Not flooring it, taking it easy and letting the turbos do some extra work for efficiency, but cruising along at 70-80mph.... she's been fitted with a ZF6 speed box too... with some crazy clutch to handle the horses... but this one is really meant to take me from A to B... not going to track or drag her... I know, its overkill for the job... but any views on all of this will greatly assist me chaps...

So what do we reakon guys 5-8mpg??????

1100 bhp was at the flywheel and on racing fuel.

So thats 8mpg at 2.35 a litre

And in the wet straight off the road backwards on even a trailing throttle!!!!!!

Plus no one has ever seen the car run after the Cars and Cars Article when it was built. I have seen it twice and both times it would not even run so it got pushed every where.

Yup, pretty much adds up to why the last owner 'couldnt be bothered to keep her, amongst other financial reasons'.... I think I will have to say a big no to her.... she looks georgous without the roof on, but as soon as the roof goes on, you wish it looked liked a GT, only to be dissapointed by a hideous flattop creature! eiiiiwwwwww

If this viper is that bad on mpg...
I wander what my 1000rwhp 850lb/ft supercharged 6 litre cerbera is going to be like when she comes back to me from the engineers workship.... oh well
Good thing is, supers are predictable because the power is exponential with centrifugal blowers running at a crank ratio... so should be fine...!!!! Thank god I never asked for a twin-turbo 1000hp conversion....
The phoenix (new name for my cerbera) will be manageable on the roads and like hellfire on the strip... 16 injector multi-map setup for road/strip use and an ECU actuated additional bypass-valve circuit to allow me cockpit control of the boost...

Thanks for the advice fellas! Hope I see you all at my Phoenix's unveiling event later this year!

No disrespect intended.

But if the Viper can't handle those mods and run, what chance has your Cerbera of running, after all TVR's
are not reliable to start with.

Do yourself a favour buy the Viper, that way you will have 2 non running cars but at least one of them will
brighten up your garage.

if done properly the viper can easily handle 1000bhp and still be streetable with reliability thrown in, there's a US 'street car' monster with 1400bhp that runs regular 8.7's down the quarter with the standard gearbox

the guys that did the red RT, worked on it years ago with now defunct technology when 'Viper' in the UK was hardly known, and performance parts were very limited.
If nothing else at least they had a go at pushing the bounderies

I hear what you're saying, but at these power-levels theres always a risk, no matter how much strengthening work you have done in the bottom and top end...

But, the cerbera is a british car, and weighing in at 2200lbs, I cant wait to see what 1/4's she'll get... and if we'll hit the estimated top speed...
Project phoenix wasnt just a bolt-on project... its a complete re-engineering project, you dont want to know the cost! The engine is complete stripped and newer technologies are being incorporated, the drivetrain is thrown away and a custom drivetrain is being installed, specifically to handle this kind of torque, and going fully Motec, dry-sump, traction control - and every thing in the engine bay is being thrown away... even the PAS/WATER/CLUTCH hydraulics are being replaced with TANK solid stuff... So she wont be the normal unreliable base Cerbera, she will be a SOLID base car, even before the blower and chargecooler are bolted on!

The other half needs to be able to handle the runabout too... not get a phonecall one day "honey, I'm stuck up a tree, can you come and get me"...
Plus I'm a little worried of what damage she has already been through, apparently the engine went pop at the tracks.... and ever since then, she's never been back on the roads, even though she has been repaired???? hmmmm
And if she was REALLY that good and useable on the roads, then why did the last owner literally give her away?
