How much more difficult is to import a Viper into the UK from the US if it's less than 10 years old? Are there any significant differences in the modifications that are required? Also, has anyone got any experience of shipping a car either to or from the US? What companies are worth using?

Carl/Nismo if you anything worth adding to Jans article let me know and i'll add it to the viper site, or you can write your own article(s) and we can run it side by side to Jans. The more info the better

Unfortunately (!), I live in California right now so a phonecall is always awkward with time differences. I'm thinking of buying a Viper within the next 2 months with a view to taking it back to the UK with me in December. The car I choose will be influenced by the ease of the importing process to the UK i.e. older than 10 years or not. Ideally I'd like to get a '96 RT-10 but maybe a '95 is a better idea? Also, once imported, do I have to take it immediately to have the necessary modifications done and get it registered. Or can I drive it home first and organise the modifications from there? And are the modifications such that only a specialist dealing in legalising Vipers could do them or they basic enough that someone reasonably competent could do them? Cheers,

Hamish

Search the site there have been many posts on this and replies by me, I did a 2000 RT/10.

Basically convert inner brake light in rear cluster to fog light, I used the switch for the front fogs as a temporary switch then turned it all back after the SVA.

Use Vauxhall Cavalier side light holders and bulbs in the hole provide in headlamp.

Disconnect all front amber lights

Fit side repeaters using Jeep Grand Cherokee items as thats what the factory uses.

Re adjust headlamps for R/H drive.

Thats about it if my memory serves me correctly.

Good luck with the purchase
