Has anyone one here had a viper without abs sva tested and if so were there any problems? I keep reading posts on other forums saying that non abs american cars don't pass the test and as my test is due shortly and my car is a non abs I am starting to worry.

sorry but don't know why abs is not a test of the SVA but bad brakes and on the rollers you will fail.....

I don't know the truth of this but ABS-equipped US cars have an FMVSS sticker on the door which basically acts as a certificate of parity to the UK requirements which is why they don't test them (although one tester tested my friend's Z06 "just to check the ABS was working...yeah right).

Without the ABS, they have to test the brakes (quite severely) and the tester who tested mine said that "American non-ABS cars always fail". Now I don't know upon what he based this information - could have been some ropey old car for all I know as the SVA Centre advised my friend that they don't do many American cars.

Suffice to say that TVR's must pass some form of SVA test to be sold in the UK so it must be possible.

Hi,

I had no problems with my car (97 GTS), then on standard US spec brakes with NO ABS.

What SVA station are you taking your car to? Each station seems to have its own foibles!!!!

My car failed on noise and we had an argument about the Headlight focussing. The beam setter I used said the lights were set up correctly, but the one at the station said they were slightly out!!!

Other stations have required that the door mirrors be altered, fog lights mounted externally, etc., whilst other stations have passed cars with almost invisible side repeaters.

As I said, it depends on which station you take your car to.
