Heat insulation question?

I have removed my cills for repainting, however i have noticed a really thin almost burnt through area on the heat insulation.
I can obtain a 1200 degree fire pad to patch this, does anyone know if this heat resistance is enough, i am going to patch the hole from behind by attaching it to the cill.
