Hi Guys.

Have gone through a whole series of track cars over the past few years and decided to jump in to Viper ownership with a Gen 2 RT10. Looking for road use but also a few trackdays. I am planning to do braided brake hoses, decent fluid, performance friction pads and some dimpled front discs to sort the braking out without a full on big brake kit. Am also looking at changing the stock exhaust as this sounds horrible especially at lower revs and around town - do you have any thoughts on the way to go - I want a CAT back system but ideally one that isn't going to get me banned off every uk circuit. Also any thoughts on cams, throttle bodies etc - have already binned the stock air filters. Views and thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

I have been tracking my RT/10 and it's a real beast. The stock brakes will fade even if you use better pads - it's a heavy car at 1645kg and it's also a fast one. You can go many ways but the easiest and cheapest one is - front SRT10 discs and calipers, rear you use your front RT10 discs and calipers. You will need brackets and a separate e-brake but all can be sourced at reasonbale price from http://www.ipsco.org/. They also sell all the other goodies which I would recommend doing before tracking
- SS brake lines
- Oil pan baffles (there are cases of oil starvation)
- Power steering pump pulley (It can crack)
- Power steering pump bracket (It can crack as well)
- Anti-toe bracket kit (this is a must, the rear end was all over the place under hard braking before I put the bracket)
- Tow hook (the viper doesn't have a tow eye)
- Depending how shot your engine mounts are you might need to change them.

The stock suspension is good but I would go with H&R lowering springs (also the car will look much better). You can also stiffen up the dampers when you change the springs as they are adjustable. For the alignment I use -2.2 front and -1.2 rear camber, I also have the toe settings somewhere at home.

Be careful with the exhaust - I have 3in catback Borla and it's too loud. I have to run baffles to put it down to 101db and it's still borderline.

Good luck and enjoy all the surprised faces when you pull back into the pits wink The most common comment would be - "I thought american cars don't go well around corners"

A small teaser how awful it handles around bedford

Two more things I forgot.
- run a breather or a catch tank
- run thicker oil - I went for 15w50

the stock gen2 brakes are pretty dire especially when compared to the newer models, there is a piston upgrade on the stock calipers which a few of the guys have done which maybe worth considering as a budget improvement

you will have to very careful with your cat back, as they do turn the volume up quite a bit

Oxam, Viper, thanks for that little lot. I think looking at Roes SRT10 calliper kit it has got to be the way to go even allowing for a separate parking brake. Oil pan will be a definite as will rear toe brackets. Would be good to know what geo you guys are running - I don't want it to be a handful on the road and am trying to get a decent balance between road and track whilst also thinking about tyre wear. The video looks great - we did Bedford with a modified M3 a couple of weeks back - the Viper destroys the tedious long back straight - the fastest we got all day was about 165mph in a McLaren. Will bear in mind the comments on exhaust - we may go for a custom with an easy bolt on for trackdays. Thanks for your trouble chaps.

I have some brackets here for the SRT fronts and Gen2 fronts to rear conversion......

Rear piston upgrade only applies on 97-2000 models ABS cars use a different rear caliper..

It depends how much you want to spend but I had a system custom built and used these people
http://www.btbexhausts.co.uk/
I have the dogs Stainless Steel installation with a guaranteed max noise level.
It has a re-packable rear box so when I want to do events that don't have noise limits (and yes there are some around) I can make her real loud.

Kumho V70A are pretty good too, I am using 305 and 335. Spacers are a good idea - make sure you order the longer wheel lugs (IPSCO has it all)
