For the 1st time my GTS would not start and I think the battery is probably on its way out although it has not been used for a couple of weeksand I left the fone in the cradle so that and the alarm were probably equally to blame!
Question: Although I am aware of the system what are your thoughts on using a trickle charger (such as an OPTIMATE) on the jump start posts for long periods?

Yes, use a trickle charge and wire it that way to the jump stud posts, that is what we all (have) to do! Most in the club use Optimate (can mail order from the internet) it comes with a nice weather proof plug now, that so you can permently wire it to the jump posts, you can have it connected and still close the hood. A couple of weeks is all it takes for the alarm system to drain our batterys. Once the the batterys down, they hardly recover, they only last about 3 years or so anyway.

I use a charger connected to the cigarette lighter - works very well for several years now

Bloody hell - that's clever.

So let me get this right - you charge the battery from the car cigarette lighter? Amazing what can be done these days - where do I get one of those

Optimate has an cigarette lighter attachment, which can be brought separately for about a tenner. It does actually charge through the cigar lighter some how !

I've brought one but never used it
