In my hurry to finish cleaning the wheels off the car yesterday to watch the GP, I didn't fit the locking wheel nut key properly and then when torquing up the nut, damaged it so it is no longer any use frown

Anyone know where I can get a new one?

Hi Graham, do you have the McGard ones (the MOPAR aftermarket ones?). I had those and was able to source a new one last year from McGard as I had the key number. It was extremely reasonable and very quick - I think £25 for two keys from Germany.

Don't think so, just the standard 17" wheel nuts

Almost certain that's a McGard one - it looks identical to my new one anyway. Do you possibly have a number with it? (15 digits). If not I found the McGard team really helpful - you might be able to send that one off to them and see if they can match it up. The alternative I read about was mashing an old socket over the nuts to remove and bin them to start again - not without its own risks!

This is a big argument for not bothering at all, When the knob heads at the tyre place put the wheel nuts on the Camaro with the air gun I was left with a knackered locking nut which I didn't discover until I checked the torque when I got home. The socket over the nut got it off with no real difficulty, well until I tried to remove the nut from the socket but that's another story.

End of the day who has a use for 10" wide, deep offset, six stud wheels from a car the isn't likely to be left anywhere that scrotes are likely to have the wheels away. I suppose the insurance may be an issue, but the ACR didn't come with locking nuts and it doesn't bother me.

I just recall a line from 'Porridge' when I wonder if I should or not - Fletcher said 'steal now, think later, that's their moto'. I leave the locking nuts off most of the time as I have shiny chromed nuts but on the very, very rare occasions it goes anywhere overnight I put the lockers on.

your right of course, but I have never heard of a viper having its wheels stolen, and if left somewhere where that's likely then I would suggest its more likely you will come back to find the car in a ditch 1/2 a mile up the road than sitting there on bricks. If you have the locking nut then may as well use it but it will only take 3 seconds longer to get that nut off if someone is out to acquire some wheels.

Apart form anything else the scrotes wont be able t fit 4 viper wheels and tyres in the boot of their polo.

Graham that key looks the same/similar to mine so its original, and given the lack of lock nuts on the ACR I suspect it may well be one of the euro viper additions

Hay, I found a McGard registration in my Viper docs with the number on! I'll contact them in Germany for a new one, thanks all for the help and emails.
