Hi

The cills can be repainted although you would need to remove the all the existing paint and refrain from using any kind of filler.

More importantly you will need to repalce the heat insulation within the cills. Apparently Chrysler told me that it is very expensive as it is the same material as used on the underside of the Space shuttle..

But it will reoccur if you plan on doing track days etc...Best bet is to remove the cats.

Hi,

You need to establish the cause of the blistering.

Yes, it is heat, but is it due your Cats being "cooked", normally caused by mis-firing. If this is the problem, you will need replacement leads and plugs. If the problem is just "worn" insulation, contact JonB and get some second hand replacements, spray the inside of the sills with High Temperature paint and then respray the outside.

I would also recommend that you get a set of High Flow cats from Sean Roe, approx $250 for a pair and fit them. Your sills will run much cooler with these fitted, but after a period they will brown again.

You are experiencing the fundimental design flaw of the Viper.

You do NOT run exhaust systems in an enclosed space. There is no where for the heat to go!!!!!!!!!!!

insultation attached to the sills isnt available separatly as a part number, you have to buy the whole sill as well about £8K a pair painted in the UK! so thats not an option.

swapping for hi-flows will greatly help reduce all the problems, fitting the sill vents should also help but
all kinds of crap will collect in there and won't escape, suppose you could 'empty' them occassionally

If its any help we run our Viper with very high temp heat wrap (two layers in fact)this greatly reduces cabin and sill temps and if your wanting even more fun wrapping the manifolds also reduces bonnet temps and improves performance(see DemonTweeks Web Site)_

Venom500

have you wrapped the cats....I wrapped most of my system but was advised not to wrap the cats as they may overheat.

Yep.Wrapped to whole system from manifold to just behind the exhaust tips.Ran like this to Le-Mans x2 and TOTB with a few near 180mph runs and no problems yet.I always thought the wrapping effect helped extract to fumes out quicker, but i may look into your point,it maybe worth you checking with the makers (i will) but so far the car runs cooler in the engine/sill area, hope this helps.
