I have been told by my local SVA testing station that to import a viper the car will either have to have abs or if not the manufacturer's plate on the car will have to show that the car complies to FMVSS. please can anyone tell me if a non abs car 1999 would have this stamped on the car any where .thanks.

When I took my Z06 to be SVA'd, the tester immediately looked for the FMVSS sticker which is located on the door jamb. Once that's there, the brakes aren't tested - period. It also has to have ABS I believe.

Basically, if the car doesn't have these things, the SVA centre have to test the brakes and the tester told me that American cars without ABS "never pass". Now I have no idea on what he bases that. They were testing a Pajero while I was there and it entailed hard acceleration and hammering on the brakes until the tyres smoked.

Try ringing the SVA centre at Pontyclun. They have a helpline and they'll put you through to someone who will help you. I rang several times to query stuff and they were very helpful.
