Well, took the day off and watched the guys at www.gds-exhausts.com/

GDS Exhaust, take out the rear silencers. That was a bit of a job, getting fingers in behind the undertray. Then they fabricated the pipes and new tips, with some great welds all through each of the sectiosn. It took from 9.30 thru to just after 3.00. They are a great outfit and do lots of performance work. I have lined them up to do the headers & hi flow cats later on.

Got the car from the ramps and what a great sound..just need the carbon to build up and it will get even rortier. I now understand a little more about the V10 idle. I forgot my camera do didnt get pics of the build, but it was really fascinating watching them cutting the steel, measuring up, bending it, fitting to get a perfect positon, then welding all the bits, cooling the steel down, and then polishing....fantastic. Did i forget to say how pleased I am with this mod. Now also have stock silencers assembly to keep as a souvenir..

If you don’t mind me asking but how much did they charge you?

I’m thinking of loosing the cats and have been ball park quoted at £200 which seemed a bit steep for a bit of 2 ½ inch pipe flared at one end. Mind you they did compare the viper to a saxo when I said it might be too loud, something like “well the saxo we did didn’t make it much louder” well it wouldn’t would it.

Anyway where’s the sound clip so we can all hear.

Also have to compare with buying it from the US and then paying shipping and taxes of various sorts.

Dave

I was also looking at removing the cats..

I've got a Hennessey full system exc headers and although the cats are free flowing I do know of at least one local car that caught alight through the cats getting too hot...I'm for ever nervous of this happening on a hot day sitting in traffic.

having spoken to Hennessey they say that it would increase horses and increase noise marginally..

Interested to know why you are looking to remove them?

Incedentally I recall the piece of pipe would need a kink in it.

But remember you may also fail your MOT on emissions cause with the probe up the pipe it will probably be high.

So its off with the cats, me I would fit hi flow from Jon B less than 500 dollars the pair.

I still have the stock cats so really need to do something as I have read all the stories of peeling paint and catching fire etc. They didn’t seem to run excessively hot when I first got the car but a year or so on I am starting to notice the heat in the foot well and sill, maybe its because I’m getting used to the car and its not a novelty anymore or maybe I’m driving it harder or both The thought process was along the lines, for the price of a couple of bits of tube and two clamps I would try cat less for a while, if I don’t like it because its too loud or too much grief at MOT then in would go some random tech high flows, but if I have to pay the same price for some tubing as I would for high flows then it seems a bit daft.

Have to say though a bit worried that cat less may just melt the rear facia rather than the side sills with reports of 3ft flames out the back of cat less vipers.
