Thing is when Viper first came out they blew the socks off everything in their class.

We talk of Ring times, proudly wear the T shirts and love the Viper for the great big V10 that it is and of course the Torque. Other manufacturers have now caught up.

So a New Model Viper comes out and we were full of anticipation on what the new Beast, Yes Beast (because its a Viper) would do?

Things are so close between Corvette and Viper its a joke!

Don't get me wrong, Nice looking car (apart from the grille, IMO), Great new interior, Performance frown Come on SRT, Its a Viper! We want more, WE NEED MORE.

I hope it does better on the track, its got a Big Big reputation to live up to!

If the C7 renderings turn out to be correct then the viper will be on top. The c7 has been well and truly hit with an ugly stick by the looks of it.

The ZR1 is also after years of racing success and in a model approaching end of life.

.. which means the 2013 corvette will truely trounce the viper.
Very sad. plus the viper costs 2x the base vette.

Should be interesting to see what happens with the new C7 anyway. Ive seen some pretty good recent pics. Not the rubbish renderings recently posted on the vette forum.

No, not in 2013 it won't. The performance version wont be until 2014 at least if it follows previous models.. Loads of renderings on FB. Still not seen any that I like tbh.

Yes the viper is 2x base vette but it wasn't beat by a base vette, it was beaten by an expensive ZR1. The viper will always be more exclusive as well.

And the ZR1 (to the uninitiated) looks like a base vette.
On that basis, I'm oot.

I'll take the Viper.

and who's to say srt aren't working on an ACR version of the gen 5 to compete with the C7 ZR1 vette, they have shown they are very serious about the vette/viper competition with the gen 4 and N'ring, taking that forward to gen 5 and the GTS-R in competition I don't see them taking this lying down, SRT also don't have a habit of showing their hand until its needed, and haven't so far gone out to beat times and records they already have, but were quite quick to re-set the n'berg time when it was needed.

Cam and headers in the C7 and I wouldnt be surprised to see 600bhp from the C7.

The viper engine needs upgrading. For the most part changes are in tune and a small cam upgrade. Heads are the same.

The viper is more exclusive, but is paying for exclusivity rather than performance seems a bit wrong in a sports car.

I think that is probably the first time anyone has said that about an American sports car. Forget Ferrari, Lamborghini eggonda etc then, pretty much all of them are more expensive, not as fast and for the most part there are more of them.

Perhaps that's Fiat's AKA Ferrari's contribution to the 2013 viper then.
..More expensive and slower.

Its probably a bit unfair to put the "base" model Viper against GM's "high performance" version of the Corvette. When the "ACR" version is "released", that might be a fairer "match".
And I know that is a lot of "quotation marks" !

True, but the ACR is a stripped out racecar, the ZR1 is a kitted out road tourer.

But indeed the comparo will be interesting. Especially against the 2014 ZR1 biggrin

My ACR has the same creature comforts as the standard srt coupe, Granted another 40lbs can be had by the hard core loss of a boot carpet, hood pad and radio, but that's hardly a race car strip out is it.
