buying a gts from the states
Discussion
Don't worry!
My advice would be with any purchase from the US, put a small deposit on the car via credit card (say $1,000). This shows the dealer you are serious and they are duty bound to hold the car for you for a reasonable amount of time (a couple of weeks).
Next, either wire transfer the money to the dealers bank account, this costs about £25 from any UK bank, you will need the name of the dealers bank name, the account number and the routing number.
The alternative to this if you want to see the car before purchasing is (and this is the fun bit) is jump on a plane and go see the car for yourself. Then if you are happy with the car pay for it with either cash or wire transfer or if you have an american bank account write a cheque against this.
When I have bought cars in the past I have either written a cheque on my Bank of America account or done a wire transfer.
Most dealers will be happy to give you the keys on receipt of the cheque rather than waiting for the cheque to clear, but this is not always the case so budget to spend up to a week in the U.S. buying the car.
whereabouts in the USA is the GTS you are looking at? How did you find it? What is your budget?
