Hey all,


Does anyone know of anywhere (States incl) that sells an ACR style bonnet for a Gen 1 Viper?

I'm desperately trying to turn our 1999 Viper into a ACR-style replica, but am struggling for suitable parts.

Or does anyone know of a Viper specialist in the UK who could take the job on and 'make' one?

nope ! as an acr was only ever made in the gts format, so you wont only need a hood you will need a roof as well and a tailgate etc , there is some one who could do this for you vprman but i bet it wont be cheep or a quick job , you would be better off buying one , i'm sure the bbc can afford it as they are saving so much money repeating everything now and not making anywhere as many quality programs anymore .

Another option could be a company I bumped into at Lydden hill track earlier in the year, they make fibreglass parts for the Jap boys, Skylines etc, but will perform 1 of body fabrication.

if your trying to turn a gen 1 into a gen 4 ACR then your going to have your work cut out as they are VERY different. To go from Gen 1 to Gen 2 ACR its only really a GTS skin you need as there were no real body differences between the GTS and ACR and whilst a Gen 2 shell on a Gen 1 will throw up problems they were probably close enough to make it possible. There was a big change between Gen 2 and 3 though where they switched from the clamshell bonnet to a more conventional "sheet" bonnet and hinged from the back rather than front so its a MAJOR job and unlikely to be cost effective and probably nothing will fit, things will be in the way and things may need to be moved as the gen 3-4 is a completely different car to 1 and 2.

The closest you may be able to get is either an ACR wing and splitter or an autoform wing and splitter. I bet if you slapped an autoform wing on, painted the bonnet,roof and boot black with a red drivers stripe (I'm assuming the original red paint is still under there somewhere) and 90% of the public wouldn't tell the difference sadly.

Here's some pics of Steves work at Autoform smile

Before I actually purchased my 94' back in 2006, I was this close to actually buying the one-off white speedster in the pics from a guy in Florida, which is why I knew it was a one-off from talking with the owner, but I didn't know what it was at the time. I hear the car is still in Florida.

I learned a few things about the history of these cars through email with Steve at Autoform. The pictures of the Yellow 01 car is actually the RT version that Autoform did and it featured a custom removable hardtop. Steve Dreyer built this car with Roy Sjioberg from Chrysler. They planned on offering these cars as a race version for the VRL (where they raced and did all of the Trackside support in those days) that would be sold as a part number through Mopar. They did 8 of this style car. Steve took the project to Chrysler and they thought it was a good idea and came up with the Competition Coupe, and the story goes that Chrysler left them hanging.

Steve did the Street Coupe with Ron Adee using the front end off the race car and changed the tail to work with the coupe. After one lap in the car, a few guys want them to do the conversion on their street cars. (Red Car)[/FONT][/COLOR]

During that time they also did the 9 Daytona cars with Woodhouse.

If you look at some of the pics, remembering that these were made in 99' and early 2000's before the Gen3 Coupe, you'll see some styling cues that were taken and used in the Comp Coupe, Gen3 Coupe and even GenV GTS-R. I particularly like the last pic, I see a lot of GEN3 Comp Coup in that.

Hey all,

Thread resurrection time biggrin

Does anyone have any info on the orange viper number 33 pictured in the above post? Reason I ask is Ive came across one almost identical to the one minus the stickers but dont know its back ground. Any info or even more pics of it would be great.

Haha the man is a legend. I bought RF Championship Vette about 8 years ago when they came out. So changed the forum name to this. Still got the vette its a great car. Although I probably shouldnt say that in the viper forum lol.
