Does anyone have any info on wiring a viper in another car. Also need to know if there is a site to identify engines / heads by numbers. Thanks, Tony.

Ive been told its a gen 3 with gen 4 heads, also been told its 2003/2004. A guy in the States says its a 2008 due to drive by wire inlet, but believe this to be added after. How do you know engine, Tony.

Gen 3 has a completely different inlet manifold and valve covers to the Gen 1/2. I'm not sure how you would tell a 3 from a 4 although they are different beasts? Gen 2 manifolds are red, 3's are the matt silver colour.

intake and valve covers are different again with a gen 4, lots of other things as well including 0.1 L, heads and VVT etc. There is a mopar package to put gen 4 heads on a gen 3 though so that can confuse things.

what’s the VIN number stamped on the engine, should be on the rear of the block below the right head on a gen 4. Vin digit 8 should be z for 8.4L gen 4 engine, I don't have a gen 3 service manual to confirm z doesn't also apply to the 8.3 engine though but you would hope not.

There is a paper slip on the front head which has the following numbers on.
P05037814AA V10 814
TPTE3346600005

Looking from the front on the left hand side at the front is stamped
08 U or V 8.4L
0208280042

On the rear of the block under head is
C5354
301568
216
G1

On the head at the rear right
F2790801
And on the front
18063

I believe the inlet is from a truck but not sure. Thanks for any help.

Well, to my inexperienced eye the valve covers suggest gen 4, I suspect Dave will be able to tell you more. 8.4 also suggests a gen 4, nice engine smile

hmm could be, especially if there is no VIN number stamped on it, Its definitely a gen 4 intake and valve covers, water pump is in the right place but not sure where it is on a gen 3, If its the mule then all bets are off at to what it actually is as its probably a bit of both.

Vin number should look something like

1B3JZ69Z??V??????

So really there is no way of telling what I have without stripping it and measuring / checking everything.
