Back in the ALMS
Discussion
New SRT Viper will race in the ALMS with Kuno Wittmer as one of the 4 drives in a two car team.
Road car will have 640 BHP and 40lbs/ft more than the old car plus it's lighter, stiffer, has traction control / sat nav / cruise control / premium leather etc.
Two version available.
SRT Viper GTS and SRT Viper, the Viper GTS will have all the toys, the Viper will be the hardcore version with exposed carbon accents on the hood.

They have a waiver to run 8 litres.
A "we haven't got a legal engine so is it okay if we cheat?" GM had to re-engineer their 7.0L V8 and throw away the supercharger to make the rules. Viper should be made to do the same. Build a 5.5 Litre V10 then go racing. Also curious why they get to run an 8.0L engine why not the 8.4L. Guess it's because they used to run 8.0L in the original race cars.If the ALMS are going to allow this it is totally wrong in my opinion and there is no guarantee that the ACO / FIA will sanction the car for Le Mans. For example look at the Maserati MC12 that was never allowed into Le Mans despite its homologation for the FIA GT1 Series.
So I wouldn't go buying tickets for Le Mans in 2013 just yet!

Reported as an ACO waiver so presumably that means they are good for Le Mans? I do think it is the ACO trying to bolster the field with some variety in the wake of GT3 gaining popularity. I only hope that GM dont spit the dummy and pull out over it.

Don't think GM will pull out but if the Viper were to run away and hide during the races I would guess GM, Porsche and BMW would not be too pleased, not sure what Ferrari would do given the common parent in Fiat!Reported as an ACO waiver so presumably that means they are good for Le Mans? Maybe they should make the Viper run with the 458 Ferrari motor?
Does make a complete mockery of the rules though if the ALMS / ACO / FIA have a 5.5L limit. I would guess GM would be spectacularly pissed off given they had to completely re-engineer their race engine to meet the 5.5L limit as previously it was a 7.0L then a 6.0L minus the supercharger.
Im not sure how this will work, I really missed the Vipers racing at Le mans. GREAT TO HAVE THEM BACK...But Trouble is IF the viper was to start winning its class, i'm sure other manufactures will start moaning, then there would be more rule changes etc, etc, We have seen it time and time again

Wot I 'eard over the weekend woz... The ACO will adjust the rules to make 8L the maximum capacity at the end of this season or next season. This is similar to what happened when Ferrari got a waiver to run the 458 which was wider than allowed. At the start of this season the ACO changed to rules to allow everyone to run a bit wider. Maybe they should make the Viper run with the 458 Ferrari motor?
