Painting Front calipers?
Discussion
Have any of you had any experience of preparing a brake caliper for painting?
I have my Brembo calipers off the car and would like to change the colour to Red. The Viper logos are very yellow so they need replacing too. Im in two minds weather to have a go at using a two part epoxy brake caliper paint and giving the calipers to a local shot blasting company to clean them up?
Any Ideas on the best way to prepare a caliper for blasting? I really dont want to bugger them up by having someone not mask them up properly Looking at some websites it seems they spray paint the calipers others use powder coat? Also what about Viper graphics for the calipers?
Any input appreciated Any recommendation's?

From memory shot blasting and powdercoating them will require them to be stripped back to nothing but the caliper. Mainly due to the heat required for powder coating. I looked into it a while back.. It wasn't all that cheap either iirc.
Fishboy's right, save your money and put it toward a big brake upgrade. You have plenty of choices available to you that will fit under your wheels, they'll look better and you won't believe the difference under braking..
I got my Stoptech kit from a place near you for a better price than JohnB was quoting on his 'special offers' that he does this time of year and with a lot less faffing about, which I won't go into on here. But with 18" wheels the SRT upgrade is also available to you and can be done cheaper if you can source some nicely priced calipers. You may need to balance those though, with a valve, as you don't have ABS, whereas the Stoptech kit is balanced correctly for the car straight out of the boxes, and in my opinion is well worth the investment for vastly improved and controlled braking.

Hey mate, just painted my calipers on my black thing.
They were black ,faded logos etc.
I used wonder wheels cleaner, really got rid of all the brake dust, and seemed to degrease
them too.Costco 5 ltrs about £10.
I then used a red scotch type pad just too dull off the surface.
Masked up the piston area and hit it with some primer (Halfords). Then a couple of coats of paint,
Areosol yep Halfords.Let it dry for a couple of days a gave it a few coats of clear laqure.
Sounds a bit cheap but done two cars now and it seems real tuff. Thanks again stickers
cheers Dave.
PS Sorry about the L word

Yeah mate, just normal spray paint.I think halfords do caliper paint but its brush on,so not sure
how well the finsh would be.I did use some silver caliper spay paint from halfords on the vette
few years back, seemed matt and not that tuff.
Paint in cans these days seem pretty tuff. They can mix up any colour and put it in cans which may help getting the exact red you want.
Use primer, seems to help grab the colour paint and less runs and saggs.
I also got a can of bumper prep which is like brake cleaner, spray it on the caliper just before primer, wiz over with clean rag ,it evaporates and leaves the surface super clean.
Bottomline not sure how well it will stand up to the job but seems great and cheap.
Cheers bud.
