What's the opinion, do you upgrade a Gen 2 with a Supercharger or Turbo. Both upgrades are available from Roe Racing. Which is best?

I dont know. I´ve been tempted by both - but in the end I stuck to normally aspirated modifications.

Less plumbing with the Roe Supercharger, Ive seen the Paxton set up and that takes a lot of work!

No idea on performance which one is best but Im sure the Doc will be along soon smile

they sold lots of SC's so all the niggles have been worked out, unlike the turbos

Why do you think Roe have migrated towards the Turbo installation? Is it that all the Superchargers have been sold and there is now no demand, since looking on their Web site it is now a special order only.

Can either installation we done in the UK?

there's a few who have fitted their own S/C over here its do-able, havent heard of anyone going the ROE turbo route in the UK

bolting the bits on is the easy bit, its all about the tuning

you could chat to Joel about the gen2 paxton install

Any view on a sensible level of tune that the engine can cope with? Supercharging ranges from 5-10 PSI! You would just select to 10 PSI or are there knock on issues?

It depends on what year your Gen 2 Viper is. Up to 1999 the engines came with forged pistons, so if you want to put on Big boost then its no problem. In 2000 Dodge changed the structure of the pistons, meaning you are ok to run up to a 6lb pulley but anything more you would be asking for trouble if you did not change them for the Forged ones smile

I've just had a Paxton system fitted on a 'Gen 1.5'. Fitting the kit is just the beginning it turns out! Well, to do it properly.

Re. SC vs turbo. Turbo is more of an unknown quantity in the UK (although Carl had it done couple of years ago) but there's more potential for power.

Your car already has forged int. Really depends on what you want out of it...
Roe is reasonably easy to fit, cant comment on the others but mine put down 743Hp with a 10lb boost...

BUT ITS ALL IN THE TUNE!!!!!!!!!!

SCT seems very popular and reliable now.... AEM is now not available due to reliablity issues..

So SCT?

I'm going for Split Second. Only way (within a reasonable budget!) I can 'properly' map the car.

Motec looking tempting though...

No, Chris tuned the stock ECU, he's the only one who can do this mind...

Sean at Roe racing and a couple of others can do the SCT as well now.... At the time Chris was on his own...

I am wondering if there is any value in sending my Euro ECU to Chris and asking him to see if its set the same as a US one and if not then to set it as it should be. I think its possible I have lack of back pressure issues as well so might debate a Corsa at some point but do love the popping noises I currently get.

Not sure there is any difference in the ECU my original GTS was a Euro car from Germany and it dyno'd 480 with a Bellinger cat back the GTS/R on the dyno made 487 with a B&B full system.

This has been discussed before on the board.

Yeah I know but I'm convinced it doesn't pull as well as say Adrians and I have the Euro restrictors removed, I'm sure we haven't definitely closed the topic and this would (if its possible that is).

I'm with Paul also to an extent, I suspect there are differences but none that are going to make a significant difference to performance, certainly not enough to warrant the cost of a US ECU or a re-programming of a euro one (although its your money)

The dyno day showed if anything that they are all over the place in terms of BHP there was no clear do this or that and you will have a stronger engine (short of a charger) or US vs EU origin. Your more likely to get a faster getaway with fresh tyres, technique and a cold crisp morning with a heated road.

I know from driving both the GTS and ACR they both pull differently on different days with different weather, some days they will launch like a rocket, others they will feel sluggish and particularly with the ACR the RPM you have when you floor it. too little and it will be a sluggish take off even after you pass the RPM when things wake up.

One thing i am absolutely convinced of is that any viper is very sensitive to conditions, be it tyre pressure and tracking (can take a undrivable car to a pleasurable car) or temperature and humidity, i dynoed 504BHP in jan and 480 when we had the dyno day when it was about 15c warmer.
