tyre help ??

hi all
just looking around at s/h tyres to give them a go before taking the plunge and buying a new set, and was wondering if i could get away with fitting 285 x 35 x 18 on the front my car ?????

also not being an expert on tyres , could someone please explain how important the load rating is ????
and what is excactly right for my car

ive seen a few around but want to just make sure they will do the job first
