dodgy roads...or me?
Discussion
I went out for an "brisk" run down the A127 in Essex yesterday afternoon,
I tell you what, i dont know if it was worn roads or what but i couldnt keep the thing in a straight line, and if i overtook, every time i crossed a white line i felt as if i was going to flip, Is it these runflats or just a case of a dodgy stretch of road?
other than re-laying a few hundred miles of roads, what can i do to combat this poop

Probably a lot of it is the road, but then also the viper is not very forgiving of the bad road. Its very sensitive to subtle changes, just switching from the PS cups to PS2's made a huge difference on mine. A few PSI on tyre pressure is the same, alignment is another area where people have reported undriveable vipers transformed into dream cars.
So check you have 29PSI in the tyres, if its still bad then get your alignment checked. If that's all good then if you need them soon switch to the PS2 non run flat tyre. I'm no tyre expert but i also suspect the 295 of the cups doesn't help vs the 275 of the PS2's i have, but then the cups have a lot stiffer sidewall as well judging by the increased bumpiness, probably much like the run flats

I had this on mine, check the dot code on the side of the Tyre (its on one side only) it will tell you when the Tyre was manufactured. It seems that anything over ~4 years gets hard and the handling is affected. I changed the Tyre pressures, the alignment and finally the tyres. The final change utterly transformed the car and this was on a Gen 2 without run flats which are notoriously bad anyway.
Even so, there are some road surfaces which demand respect, e.g. all of Surrey, where you have to give the car space to fight you a little.

I could name plenty of crap roads in Surrey, our roads are more like the Grand National course, water hazards, pot holes the size of Golf bunkers, compressed tarmac from Lorries and crap repairs from utility companies after they have laid their new pipes under the roads. The inside lane on most tarmac-ed motorways is normally rutted from large lorries and that's the last place you want to be in a Viper! I remember one time I was driving my Van on the A12, a mile or so just before the M25 exit while driving in the inside lane I was suddenly confronted by a pair of extension ladders which had fallen off the roof of someones car or van They were laying perfectly straight in the middle of the lane, I did not have time to stop and drove straight over the top of them, luckily the clearance of my van missed the ladders and all was well but If I had been in the Viper it would have been a very different story!
Stick to the middle or outside lane

I had a similar thing happen a couple of months ago on the M40, slight crest on the road and just over the top someones manifold lying in the middle of the road - I know enough not to swerve so lined the car up as best I could and it just cleared it - heard a slight clonk at the back but no sign of any damage. Thank god that was in the Mondeo! Stick to the middle or outside lane
