I have clear markers on the front of mine but with amber bulbs and they are fine. I also have the same setup for the side indicators and they are fine as well.
Mark
thats plain nasty Mark you get that horrible egg yolk look, swap them out and get the clear/silver ones that light orange less than a tenner at halfordsMark
here they are on the GTS, even better if you paint the plastic lamp holder silver

That is exactly what I have, I meant they flash amber :-)

Do they get through the SVA like that?
No it will fail an IVA like that.... They need to be disconeted and side repeaters mounted on the side or inbetween hood and door next to an infill panel...But they do pass an MOT...

But is there an additional side light? If not it shouldn't pass an MOT.
There is an additional side light in the headlight, this is not an issue. As far as I was aware the side markers being discussed here should only work as an indicator, but maybe that's only the Euro Spec Cars.
Neil is right Mark, the silver coloured bulbs that flash orange look immensely better in the clear side markers, as you don't get the egg yolk effect when you look at them, I got a set in Halfords without any problems.
In the UK they shouldn't have any bulbs in them.
They dont meet the visibility angles for side repeaters, and you cant have more than one side repeater. They are also on with the side/head lights
They cant be used as side markers, as you cant see them 45 degrees inboard from the front. They also flash off when the side/head lights are on and the indicator is on
Having said that you may get away with it on an MOT as they are less stringent and perhaps dont have the same in depth knowledge as an IVA tester. and probably do the "well you have one so what if you have two and they dont flash together who cares"

The MOT tester follows different rules to IVA, nothing to do with lack of knowledge. That's why I asked if there was a separate side light because if the marker light acts as a side light and is then affected by the indicator it should fail an MOT test. If there's a separate side light it doesn't matter that the marker is affected by the indicator as it's a non obligatory lamp as long as it shows white when permanently illuminated but bearing in mind it must flash amber.Edited by ViperDave on Thursday 30th June 12:48
Sidelights are seperate to the maker lights in the bumper... but in US form they are indicators and side light together in the headlight.. will not pass MOT or IVA.... But there is a space for UK spec clear/white side lights...
The MARKER light in the bumper is also an indicator does not pass IVA but does pass MOT...Most places anyway....

mot manual said:
b. that the minimum number of direction indicators are securely fitted
Note: The precise position of direction indicators is not part of the inspection, but check visually that the lamps are at about the same height and the same distance from each side of the vehicle.
Its possible they may fail them under Note: The precise position of direction indicators is not part of the inspection, but check visually that the lamps are at about the same height and the same distance from each side of the vehicle.

Which applies to both MARKERS and INDICATORS. but if you still have the minimum of both you may be ok.The MOT and even IVA for that matter still does not mean it meets construction and use regs and therefore legal
