Hello all

My brother is potentially looking to buy a Viper and has seen this car on PH

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2858989.htm

Do any of you guys know it??

Also he lives near Reading and wanted to know if there are any specialists within reasonable distance for servicing? Are parts hard to come by?

thanks for your help

Craig

I don't know the car but I'm sure someone will be along soon who does, or can maybe shed some light on it. I do know exactly where the dealer is and I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to get to look at it if you were interested.

As for parts, these can be easily obtained from the US. Servicing is pretty straightforward, however, Dr Bob on here is THE person to speak to.

I don't know that particualr car, but have had an early GenI, as have many of us on here, they are great cars, and look great, I would definitely have another one. That one looks pretty clean, and the panel gaps all look nice and tidy. There are a couple in the UK Club which may be available if he is looking for a car which is known to us.

Parts are easily available, we have many suppliers in the States who regularly send over parts to the UK, and are extremely helpful with the UK Club & Owners. As for servicing, this is extremely simple, and if you have even the slightest amount of hands-on abilities then most of it you can do yourself, they are not difficult to work on. Many of us contact Dr-Bob, the Club Technical Director, for assistance with more extensive works, and he also services many of the UK owners cars for them.

The UK Club are a very friendly bunch, and we are here to help, if and when he buys one... If your brother needs any advice or assistance let us know. Keep us posted, and best of luck.

As I say, they are pretty easy to work on, and the engines are known to be pretty well bullet proof.
The GenI is a little more of a harder ride, and they don't have the benefit of proper windows, or in many cases a hard-top roof, but aftermarket hardtops and slot in windows are available for them, which my last car had, and they worked well.

At the end of the day if he wants a fun car, for good weather, that will never fail to put a smile on his face, then a GenI will most definitely fit the bill, but if he wants a car which is more practical (if you can call it that), handles better, has a little more power as standard, and less likely to get wet in, (even with the wet weather gear on the GenI's do have a tendency to leak a little), then a GenII may be better for him, but they do command more money.

The GenI I had was excellent! I loved it, but I had always wanted a GTS, so switched and moved on, Having done that I don't think I would go back to a GenI, but if I could justify owning a second Viper in the garage, I would happily have a GenI again, they do look great, and, from the back especially, they look like nothing else on the road.

Best of luck, and whatever he decides to do, make sure you keep us posted, as there are a few rather dodgy cars out there that we are aware of, so let us know if he starts taking a liking to anything in particular in case we know anything about it.

I'm looking to sell my 1993 RT10, like Dave I fancy a GTS.

Comes complete with soft top, side windows, tonneau cover. But also has the benefit of a hard top and matching side windows.

MOT'd last week, just under 20,000 miles. But I would want more than £25k for it.

You can see the car if you click on my profile

We have various places for parts on these cars smile If the car has standard brakes you can pick up Renault laguna rear Brake pads for as little as £20.00 The brakes are Brembo and as with most parts, are shared with other cars wink

Chuck Tator of Tators Garage in the USA is a great source for factory parts, he also comes over to UK every now and again and gives advice freely www.tatorsdodge.comsmile

Another good place for parts is www.viperpartsofamerica.com If you don't see what you looking for on their website drop them an email and they will get right back to you.

The Gen 1 cars have 400 BHP standard. The windscreen on a Gen 1 is different to a Gen 2, the gen 2 screen bends around slightly more on the sides. Other differences are steering wheel (no air bag) Engine wise The Gen 1 cars have twin throttle cables where the Gen 2 cars have only one with a fixed bar between Carbs Throttle Body's. Wheels are 17 inch. Tyres for these cars are NOT CHEAP! Most owners seem to like the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres, there are various options out there, but the Michelin seem to last the longest.

Not sure from the pics of that Gen 1 weather the Tyres are Pilot Sport 1s or 2s? If they are Pilot Sport 1s you need to give them great respect! They may have plenty of tread on them but the rubber will be hard and you will not have much grip when cornering or under heavy breaking, Remember NO ABS on these cars wink

Gear shifting on these cars has to be respected, there are many threads on the Viper Club America forums about people who have missed a shift and as a consequence have locked the rear wheels up and spun the car off the road wink It can be easily done shifting from the top of 3rd thinking you're going into 4th to suddenly find you've hit 2nd!!!! I will hold my hand up to say this has happened to me many times but I'm always careful with the clutch and have just caught it in time wink

Ive had the pleasure of driving a Gen 1 down to Le mans and back, These really are fantastic, no thrills seat of your pants driving cars. As Dave said, if I had the monies and space I would love a Gen 1 to go with my GTS ......Just off to buy another Lottery Ticket biggrin

Did I mention Reds the Fastest colour too biggrin
