My new old-man’s bike arrives next week, a BMW R1300GS, so I called my broker to take a hooligan bike off (Husqvarna 701 Supermoto) and add the BMW.

No chance. The new bike is a straight decline, both from my current insurer and everyone else that the broker can access.

It’s because of price, I went for all the options which took it to £23,000, and none of them are interested.

It’s a shame, my multi-bike policy has been great, letting me swap bikes in and out easily but now I need to look around again, and the chance of getting three bikes covered for anything close to my current £1,000 premium seems slim.

I was always going to buy it, and there are others who’ll insure it, it’s just a pain to need to change insurers, and also a surprise that a mainstream bike (likely to be one of the top sellers this year) is excluded by some insurers on price.

I’m paying £1,000 for three bikes at the minute, fully comp.

It looks like £1,700 for just the new one if I use my no-claims bonus on it.

I might just go third party only, which is £400. Any claim is likely to screw my car insurance anyway (currently £6,000 per year), so there’s little value to fully comp.

I went on a companion site to get a quote for a GS 1300 (probably pointless, see my thread).

I only got one quote back but honestly it wasn’t that high, only about £150 up on the 1250r I bought new.

I thought I might get a few sky high prices but was also surprised the companies who wouldn’t quote.
Which one was it?
