Right just bought the new What Bike mag and flicking through i saw the CBR600RR which i was going to go for once i passed the DAS.
Now flicking through even further i find that Suzuki are doing a new 600 which is supposed to be better than all the other 600 on the market.

The fact that its a grand cheaper and 2 insurance groups lower than the CBR600RR this seems to be a better buy. From experiance can anyone tell me if Suzuki are just as reliable.

also is there much of a differance between a 500cc and a 600cc? only ask that as Suzuki are doing a GS500F that is insurance group 7 compared to 14 (the 600)

Thanks

D3,

Depending upon your age, I doubt anyone will give you insurance on a CBR600RR after just passing your test, or it will be prohibitively expensive! Get yourself a secondhand RR or something similar (i.e. a year or 18 months old) and you can probably pick one up for a whisker over 5 grand. Depends what you want to use the bike for really. Kawasaki's new model ZX6 is very good on track, but is tiny, the honda is a good all rounder as is the (current) suzuki GSXR6. I think Yamaha's R6 is due to be replaced soon, so there should be some used or nearly new bargains out there if people are sensible with their prices. Remember, it's a buyers market. If the dealer won't give you what you want, go elsewhere. You'll maybe find out the hard way, that most (though not all) dealers are your best mate until you've actually bought the bike... caveat emptor!

Which Suzuki are you looking at ? I'd be quite surprised if a GSXR is 2 insurance groups lower than a CBR.

CBR600RR Group 15

I think i need an eye test.

Fergus: The bike will be used mainly for communting along the A2 and A13 from Bluewater, but will also be used for a sunday blast around where i live, some great A roads around.

The difference between the GS500 and the GSXR600 is HHHUUUUGGGEEEE!!!!

The GS500 is an old 500 twin, with about 50bhp, which will be good for pottering about, The GSXR600 is a full on Supersports 600 which is suited to the track, half way between the two will be the SV650 or Bandit 600.

The CBR600RR is also a full on Supersports, they also do a CBR600F which will be better suited to a new rider, You will not notice the difference between the CBR600RR and the CBR600F. If anything the CBR600F will be better for a new rider.

By the way. I did my DAS on a GS500, then had a 600 Bandit, now have a GSXR600.

If I had brought the GSXR600 when I first passed, the performance would have frightened me and I wouldn't get the enjoyment I do now.

Tim.

thanks for laying that out in laymans terms. I thought there was a reason for the difference in costs between the 500 and 600.

I too am learning on a GS500 and the difference between that and my Bandit 600 is huge - GS500 is typical learner bike, 52bhp. Bandit has 80bhp.

Lol. I can't emphasise the difference enough twixt Gixer and GS500. Here's my best power example though: The GS will struggle to do 130. The Gixer 600 will do that on the back wheel.

Otherwise, the choice is down to character and longeivity (sp?). The Honda is better built and will require less attention to keep it looking like new. The gixers paint is generally more liable to get stone chips and the whole unit requires more tlc than the Honda. However, the gixer generally has more character. It's the GSXR thing. You can't get away from it. It turns you into a hoon.

Another way you will notice a huge difference between the two is the seating position.

I suggest that you get yourself to the BMF show in a couple of weeks time. All of the manufacturers will be there so you can sit on the bikes and see what is more comfortable.

For example there is quite a big difference between the CBR600F & CBR600RR. The way you will tell is when you sit on the bike. the 'F' will be far more comfortable.

Also doing this you will see what bikes look good and what bikes don't.

The BMF is on 22nd & 23rd May at East & england showground in Peterborough.

Hi Fergus

Yeah still thinking of it, thanks for your other post.

Unfortuantly I've put my sensible hat on, and going to wait till next year, as I'm currently moving house, and the spare cash should really be used for the move.

Looks like a few friends are also thinking the same, so we will be able to all put in for transport etc.

Never Mind I still have my GSXR600 for track days this year!!
