Guys

After Doing my first Track day on Monday. I think that the bug has bitten!!

So as I really do not want to wreck my nice new GSXR. I have been thinking of buying an old Bike specifically for the Track.

I'm thinking of getting something like an old SRAD GSXR750.
Has anybody else done something like this?

Is it a wise move?

How much should I be looking to pay?

Tim.

Tim,

I reckon around £2k will get you something smart(ish). Remember that you are buying a track/race bike, not something to mince about with polishing...

It will have been used (hard) and may well have some scars from having gone down the road. Make sure that all the consumables are OK (brake pads & discs, chain & sprockets, both tyres, brake fluid, colour of engine oil, bearings, etc). Otherwise, your £2k bike will cost another £500 to get ready for a track. Crash bungs are worth their weight in gold if you bin it.

You probably won't get any documentation (V5) with the bike, but if the seller has their original purchase receipt and loads of reciepts for parts & consumables, then you're probably OK.

Try and get a bike with engine and frame numbers (although not all have these) as you can at least HPI check the thing. Try looking on www.bemsee.co.uk or www.roadracing.co.uk.

It's not the best time to buy, as everyone is either racing or has started doing trackdays again. It may take longer than it would in winter....

Good luck. Let me know if you need any further advice.
