Hi
I'm looking to buy a bike in the near future, but know nothing about them. What bike do you recommend to someone with no riding experience? On looks alone, my favorite bike is a Triumph Daytona 600, there's a beautiful one at my college, exact color I want too (silver). Would this be a good bike for a new guy (I'm guessing no, for some reason)?

If you’re after a good looking bike and have never ridden before how about a Sachs? Im not sure if they sell them in the US though.
I bought one for the looks and the fact is has a 4 stoke engine rather than a 2, so this should make the engine more reliable. It won’t tear up the tarmac, but for a newbie this is a great bike. I am looking at selling it soon as I want to pass my DA and get a bigger bike

Take a look, this is mine.

my first bike was/is a GSXR-750.

I personaly dont beleive engine size is a problem But and here is a big but!

I had been driving fastish cars for a long time and had plenty of experience on the road so Am probably able to read the road better now than I was when I was younger.

If you are new to driving then probably something less powerful is a better idea.

How about a 400 race rep? they are plenty fast enough and look great.

a bandit or fazer is a good starter bike. the daytona 600 Im biased on, I love it. I have the triumph daytona 955i. Its rumoured to have the best chassis of all bikes, and handles superb. allegedly down a little on power compared to some, but so small, a newbie like yourself won't notice.

The prices have just come down on new ones, so second values should be effected too! Make sure you get the lowered front cog, 15 tooth, which is now standard on newer models.

thank you all for the help! I've got some money I can waste, and I think I could find worse things to do than buy a bike. I just have to shop around now...

one good thing, even if you don't like the bike you should not lose much money as the used bike market keeps used values high.

For example there are used 1 year old examples of my bike (GSXR600) selling for MORE than I brought my bike brand new!

anyways you will not regret buying a bike!!

Someone recommended a BMW F650 GS for a first bike and I really enjoyed it. Very reliable, fun and not slow (although not a sports bike either).

For a first bike it was ideal, although not too keen to lean over on corners, without counter-steering.

Enjoy whatever you ride! If you get it wrong, you won't lose much on changing anyway but try a few and see what you enjoy the most.
