Stoppie World Record
Going for 300 metres on a Nitrous powered Buell
Stunter rider Craig Jones is heading off to Spain to attempt a new world record at the end of this month.
Jones, one of the world’s elite extreme riders, has got the green light to break his world Stoppie record in front of the tens of thousands of race fans attending the first round of the 2004 World Superbikes championship.
Jones set the current world record of 266 metres in Florida last year and is now planning to smash through the 300 metre barrier in Valencia on his Buell Firebolt XB12R. The former European extreme riding champion said:
"Valencia can’t come soon enough! Our preparations are going well and the 300 metre landmark is a real possibility because I’ve got total confidence in the Firebolt XB12R and my support team ."
The Englishman and his Buell team will use the start/finish straight of the Ricardo Tormo circuit to achieve a launch speed of 140mph. Then he’ll stand the Sportfighter Buell Firebolt XB12R on the front wheel and target the 300 metre line.
To achieve this speed in such a short distance the Buell Firebolt has been fitted with a special nitrous oxide injection system that unleashes an extra 40bhp. When Jones hits fifth gear he’ll press and hold the injector button for five seconds to release the nitrous oxide into the engine.
The World Stoppie record involves balancing a motorcycle on the front wheel at high speed and then steering it down the track under the lightest possible braking to achieve maximum distance.

He zapped past me a couple of times at 165+ (topped out at 182 that weekend) then stoppied past me, while I was doing round 70.
I couldn't say for sure, as it was dark and I was concentrating on remembering the french for "ambulance, please", but I reckon that must have been at least 500 feet (braking distance from 160 to 65 on one wheel...?)
Just to give this some perspective.
