A Newbie offers himself up for verbal slaughter ;-)

I know how emotive this subject can be after doing some searches on the subject in this forum.

But here goes.

In mid life crisis I have decided I want to get on two wheels but still want a bit of comfort so think one of these rather posh new scooters (with slighly larger wheels than scooters of yore) meets my needs (Piaggio X9 for example or the Yamaha Majesty range). However I am completely unfamiliar with the market, what is available and the pros and cons of each model. I will only be using it for short trips - under 20 miles but includes a short stretch of motorway.

Appreciate any pointers on where I can advance my knowledge of the market quickly, other forums (google did not seem to turn anything useful up) or indeed any recommends on models to consider.

Yeah - I know a real motorcycle is better - I am just a sad old git who wants a bit of comfort and dare I say style! ;-)

Thanks in advance
NormanB

Scooters are great as are all two wheelers. Try the Honda Silverwing if you can afford it. Lots of storage space, quick enough for all roads and looks nice too.

2nd gear power wheelie past an Aprilia 125 on the weekend was as close to scootering as I could possibly get. If I lived in a city then I would definitely consider one of the Ducati livery Gileras?? (I think) but not for any other reason. I suppose I would use one as a pit bike if I was a WSBK or GP racer but there is no chance of that. So motorcycle it will remain.

PS, Nice smell though!!
