Am looking to get hold of an Enduro Jacket and Jeans for some off road tomfoolery.

Needs to be thoroughly waterproof and tough, preferably with armour, but not essential.

Any recommendations?

If you're not too worried about appearance then you can't go wrong with Army Surplus...they do goretex lined combat jackets these days which are quite tough (well they'd need to be wouldn't they

Unless , of course, you're looking for 'proper' stuff

Get yourslef some armour to go under your bin liners. When (not if) you hit the deck, you will hurt the next day without some decent kit. Knee protectors, an 'armour jacket' (e.g. knox, UFO, etc) are all a good idea. Try sealskinz socks to keep your tootsies dry.

Take two pairs of gloves with you and something to clean your goggles with. Lovely.

Got armour already Ferg, just looking for something warm and dry to keep the worst of the mud out

Looking at Sinisalo and Pro Grip stuff although, Hein Gericke is excellent at the price!

Sinisalo will keep you dry, although you also may want to bear in mind that when poncing about in a nice warm changing room in your insulated pants (not of the 'under' variety), that you will boil your ass off whilst riding. Try and see if you can find something either non-lined, but durable (i.e. cordura type material), or lined, but vented - think about where water could get in if you choose this route...

Hein Gericke gear is usually pretty good & cheap. They do some nice enduro type gear, which may suit your needs OK. Let us know what you go for in the end. How's the DRZ?

DRZ is mint thanks, very pleased with it. Should have gone 4-stroke for my trailie long ago!

Thinking of the Sinisalo MXM jacket which has removable sleeves (good in summer) but unsure whether it's waterproof or not? It's made of Cordura 500D (whatever 500D is?). It's just that I have a Furygan Cordura jacket that's 'supposed' to be waterproof and it's about as waterproof as a seive!

Stig,

Why don't you get an Alpinestars RJ3 Rain Jacket about £35, 100% water proof and will slip over everything.

I have a pair of Sinisalo pants and they are excellent, well worth the money. I use an old Cordura jacket and the Alpinestars RJ3 and I keep dry. I also have the Aplinestars knee protectors which are very good for the money.

Andy - yeah, looked at the El Nino jacket/jeans and they're good value.

But I'd rather stick to just the one jacket if possible.

Stig,
Go for the Sinisalo jacket, if it's as good as the trousers then it will be good.

Stig,

If you 'layer', not only will you stay warmer, but you can be more flexible with regard to the prevailing conditions, rather than being stuck with a duvet on your back!....

lol - I know what you mean Ferg

There's a good Pro Grip Extreme Enduro which has a quilted/waterproof removable liner so give the best of both worlds.

That said, I'm going to pop into Hein Gericke in Slough to have a gander at the Tuareg stuff.

You can't go wrong with HG gear. I've got an old tuareg jacket (with removable liner) that's been down the road twice (tarmac) and still looks OK. I sense some of it is built for 'off road touring' i.e. R1150GS riders!

How's the Ultima build going? I want to feel the planet stop revolving for a second when you dump the clutch! Do you miss the wedgies (not the unpleasant underpants sensation...)

How does anyone feel about a PH bike track day (I think this should go on another topic though)

Ferg, Ultima has been finished for a year chap. That said, still fiddling with it to make it easier to live with and have just had the entire exhaust system ceramic coated inside and out less heat, more power!!!

Don't 'miss' the wedge as my brother bought it and it's parked about 10 foot away from the Ult! He's had a new hood fitted and it looks (and sounds) as awesome as ever.

Up for a trackday once the weather improves. Will be tempted to take the moto'd DRZ rather than the R1 as it's a lot cheaper to chuck into the boonies It may prove hard to justify keeping the R1 - but I love it as a full on spotrs bike.

getting a bit off -topic me thinks, however, have you tried exhaust wrap and also aluminising the inside of the engine bay around the manifold? If there are any naca ducts or vents in the engine cover, you could use clear ducting to take the feed from one of the louvres to route cold air flow onto the hotspots?

What do the other bods on the ultima forum have to say?

Ferg

On a short circuit the DRZ could be quite a laugh (with the right tyres)... Not as 'funny' as the R1 though - if you want a real laugh.

What wedgie did you have - it wasn;t a 450 SEAC was it - a bit of an animal by all accounts - call me pepperami!
