Commute on a RR?
Discussion
Having a swap round with my bikes at the mo, sold the mille R (following pressure from the Mrs), currently commute to work every day on an 02 cbr 6 sport, I am starting to really rack up the miles on it, and have been wondering if anyone on here uses a 6oo RR for everyday riding?
If so could you let me know your thoughts on comfort and build quality, ie how well does it deal with winter salt etc
Your thoughts would be much appreciated

Don't have one myself, but can just add what I've read in mags over the years.
I saw a 2nd hand feature on the CBR600, and there was a little box with an owner who had done over 100,000 miles on his (same engine). Basically boiled down to lots of oil changes and not giving it stick when the engine was cold.
Winter salt - The finish on Hondas is among the best on bikes (not sure if BMW's are supposed to be better or equal). Ability to deal with salt is down to protecting the necessary metal bits from the nasty stuff. Would imagine there are lots of helpful articles on this within bike mags on this topic at this time of the year?
Richard D thanks for that.
Barry, i bought the griff from a guy in Chingford, think it came to him via a local car dealer, I had to trace the history as it was missing, think it was serviced by fernies?
I sold the griff to Castle in Stanstead, they in turn sold it to a young guy who blew the engine on a track day a few months later. I was in castle the day after it came back for a rebuild, the car looked in a shocking state then which was sad, and it was a bit embarrasing for me as I was there to test drive a Cerbie!
How did you get on with it?

Ahh, history is, I ordered it , day i picked it up it got rear-ended (I was sooooo happy, not) drove it around for bit (did a Monaco GP trip and several trips to work in NL). Drove it though a hedge once (don't ask), had a cat jump out in front of it on the A3 (big damage to the front) , then when in NL the crankcase pulley sheared off (I kid you not), got it towed back to Fernies from NL , never saw it again. I'd missed 2 payments whilst working over there and they repo'd it before i could do anything about it. They sold it for 21K at auction and gave me a bill for the difference (about 14K).
That was that.
Not a good time in my life.
I saw it was for sale a while back and was tempted to re-acquire it but the mileage/price looked very dodgy to me, so I've decided to leave it be.....glad I did now ;-p

I have been commuting from Bishops Stortford into the City every day since I picked up my CBR 600RR in April 2003. I used to use a CBR 600 FS1, but wanted the RR as soon as I saw it. Needless to say the bike has covered a few miles but has never missed a beat. I have had it serviced every 4,000 miles and the 12,000 mile service is due in about a months time. I've gone through three sets of tyres (Pirelli Diablo rear and Diablo Corsa front) and on the third set of front pads.
The only changes I have made to the bike are, (obligitory) Akrapovic titanium can, Power Commander, R&G fairing crash bobbins, rear alloy bobbins, and a Fabbri double bubble dark tint screen (for the M11 run).
I thought about getting the new CBR 1000RR this spring but instead I bought a new CRF 450 to get very muddy with at the weekends.
I will keep the 600RR until March / April 2005 when the 2 year warranty runs out and then either get a 2005 600RR or 1000RR, but it will probably be the 600RR.
Andy.

Andy thanks for the reply, I am thinking of doing what you have done, got a 2002 Cbr 6 sport, used it everyday for the last 2 years to commute from Stevenage to Pinner, now racked up 24000 miles and warranty runs out in June.
Really fancied a 600RR to replace it, but was concerned about comfort and build. How do you rate the comfort, particularily if you are filtering on the RR compared to the previous CBR 6?

T5,
The RR is no more harder to filter than the Sport as far as I can remember, however, the riding position is different to the Sport. The good thing is the bike is quite light and thin which helps. I'm on the bike for just under an hour each way and have no problems with comfort, but I have done a couple of 1.5 to 2 hour rides and you know about it then. Build quality is great, nothing has gone wrong or fallen off and the bike is used in all kinds of weather. The only thing I've replaced is the headlight bulb for a slightly higher wattage brilliant white bulb and the number plate bulb. All the plastics are still fine and not faded or marked, probably because the bike is kept in an underground car park at work and in the garage at night.
As I said I will get another one when the warranty runs out early next year, hopefully it will have more power as it will be a revamped model for 2005, not just new colour scheme's.

cbrrrrr,
I saw the Harris plate holder at the Alley Palley show and wasn't convinced with it. Seems a bit too big but engineered quite well. The Carbontek plate holder looks better and a little less subtle than the harris one. I've taken off the grey wing type things with slats in them and have only the black plastic bits which looks a lot better. I've also taken off the rear pegs (don't carry a pillion) and that has tidied up the rear end.
I only have the Akra end can and with the Power Commander it gives 108 bhp. When Dynojet did mine they had had an RR with a full titanium system which gave 112 bhp, but I couldn't justify the extra £750 for the headers for just another 4 bhp. Apparently the Yoshimira can gives a bit more than the Akrapovic, but it is quite expensive.
If I spend anymore money on the bike it will be on suspension.......Ohlins springed shocks and an Ohlins rear.....or save the money and wait for the 2005 600 RR.
