just road tested the Aprilia rsv and the gsxr:-)
Discussion
Went to two seperate dealers yesterday(at last)to test the two bikes i was interested in,the Aprilia mille rsv-r(01) and gsxr1000,well i only got chance on a gsx-r600(03)model.I arrived at the dealer and they had the Aprilia sitting ticking over,it sounded fantastic!Big lumpy, grunty tickover.Blipped the throttle, helped scrape the salesman off the tarmac who just happened to be in line of the can and made off on my merry way, battery had been dead so had to bump it a few times:-(.So on test ride was worried bout it cutting out at roundabouts or something and having to bump it on the level, eek, felt a bit anxious to say the least, luckily everything turn out fine, just kept the revs up at junctions,it was fine.First impression was christ this screen is close to my nose:-)Kept having to shuffle my ass back the seat to get anywhere near the gear selector, after a while i was fine, this thing felt like a very quick, big trial bike?It was weird,i was sitting in a racing bike position but flying along on a two wheeled tractor.Fast as hell though, ohlins suspension was unbelievable, wasn't aware of the road below me at all,one finger on the brake was all that was needed, sudden but very gradual.I loved the Aprilia but gear selector positioning and the price they wanted for what in reality was a three year old bike put me off, pity,i can really see why people could get hooked on the Aprilias, great big torquey bike. Now straight onto a gsxr600 at another dealer, felt fantastic and everything was where i wanted it.Dropped into first, fantastic induction roar as i went up the box,i just couldn't keep the smile off my face:-)What a machine, you just wanted to ring its neck all the time. The engine was so smooth,it just sung, you feel like a racer on it and i was up to 120 in no time,i just fell in love with it straight away! The gsxr thou wasn't available at the time but first thing in my mind when i came off the 600 was christ,if thats just the 600 what the hell is the thou like?Im getting the black and silver version which i think looks fantastic, gets away from the usual blue and white scheme. So i've put a deposit on the 600 but the chance of having the 1000 niggles me,finances at the moment mean i can either spend my whack on getting the 1000 and have bugger all for the 800 insurance and other bits and bobs,(which wasn't that bad a quote incidentally) or get the 600 and spend a load on mods and trick bits and pieces for it,and only an extra £120 insurance over the old cbr6 i have,i should see sense and with the 600 and hope regret at not getting the 1000 doesnt kick in at any time in the near future:-)
I've just had a new GSXR600, and its a great bike Although mine is still running in. I think the only time you will wish you had the 1000 is when your in a lazy mood and want to overtake a line of cars in 5th gear from 40mph. The rest of the time the 600 will be near enough as quick. especially if you enjoy going through the box.
Have you gone for the 2003 GSXR600 K3 or the new trick 2004 K4 model?

I bought a new K3 GSX-R 600 a few weeks ago. Everytime I take it out it puts a huge grin on my face. However I must add that I am fairly new to biking having only passed my test in September 2003. I was trying to buy mine for £4999. George White Swindon had them for this price but I wanted to buy it locally. In the end George White sold out and I bought it at Fowlers, Bristol for £5199. Glad I moved quickly as when I picked the bike up they'd sold all of they're stock of K3 GSX-R 600's
Im from Scotland and i reckon we get screwed something rotten up here for prices compared to England.I saw the gsxr600 advertised down south for £4999 also, but up here we get told by salesmen oh,were selling this virtually for what we bought it in for,if thats so how can they sell it for £4999 in other places?.The Aprilia up here was in Duffus's for £7295,three years old!Down in Wigan i was offered a new 2003 model rsv for £6595,and it wasn't an import.I was just going to say it,jump in a van and go down south to save money but i thought its best to have the dealer local for servicing etc,or if i have any problems with the bike.
