Much as I like the Moto Guzzi California EV and the exhaust note sounds great, I'm toying with the idea of a louder can (is that bike speak for exhaust?).

Would you guys go for legal or ever so slightly illegal - and do the police bother provided its clearly not too excessive?

Must say that people notice the M-G approaching more than my very quiet previous BMW F650 GS, but I'd like to share the sound more with my fellow road users.

I've mostly had loud bikes, currently Ducati 916 with 'Termis' which are 'race use only' and are loud but not excessively - sounds about right to me .

Regarding the law, I've been stopped by plod on, ahem, several occasions for 'speed-related' issues and even when stopped by a real anti-speed Nazi type who told me I should be disqualified & sent me to court to be disqualified (got away with 6 points and a 'donation') have never had the question of noise even mentioned by the law. Even with my old KTM (which was LOUD).

I also have never had an issue with MOT stations (I think you need to use a 'sympathetic' one) although once when testing the KTM the guy asked me to start it (coz he couldn't - Left-side Kickstart high compression) so that he could hear it running - his only comment was "Ferkin' Hell that's loud" but he still passed it

Anyway all Italian V-twins, IMHO, need a straight through exhaust otherwise they lose their character.

If you do get pulled for loud exhaust, I believe the penalty is only minor (FPN £20? plus a vehicle defect rectification) The choice is yours, I know what I would do

(you know it makes sense)

I agree and am now phoning dealer for a price.

Its only done 900 miles but she sounds lovely, so much so that I want to be sure that all my neighbours share the full benefit (but not excessively of course!).
