Chaps,

ALongside my R1 I also have a Yamaha DT200WR. Thing is, with all these pukka 4-strokes around I'd really like to sell the DT on and replace it with a thumper.

Immediate thoughts turn to the WR426 or 450, but also the Honda CR-M or even a Suzuki?

I want the bike primarily for off road hoonage, but would value the benefit of using it for my 90 mile round trip commute when the weather is pants so a decent tank range would be a bonus!

Any suggestions?

Stig,
I'm possibly in the market for a cheap, road registered off roader. Are you selling? If so how much and how old?

Cheers

How about huskvarna TE410/610 or KTM 400/640 LC4 both models would handle off road well and be ok on your commute too.

I had the KTM and I did some on and off road on the F650. For hoonage the KTM is the better of the two but IMHO both are too heavy. I favour the Suzuki off road but it's a bit wearing (with a short tank range) on road. Personally I am in love with the Honda CRM - but you are trying to get out of two strokes.

Oh, currently using the R1150GS. Blinding on road and more capable off road than you would think. Good for trailing but not for hoonage.

Yeah - bit of a Doh! moment on the CR-M.

Thing is, I want to keep the bike weight down (there's enough carried by the rider ) but with a fair range and decent grunt. Am looking into supermoto's now which in theory, would give me the best of both worlds. KTM are well in the running as are Huskies.

I had a KTM Duke and an XR500R and they both gave me some major grins and some major bruises! Depends how seriously off-road you want to go, but have you looked at www.ccm-motorcycles.com/?

PS Almost forgot - I know somebody who has one of these and swears by it...

Narrowed the list down to 3 bikes I reckon:

Yamaha WR426
Suzuki DR-Z400s
Honda XR250R/400R

Just got to find a decent one at a good price!
