ok listen up, I'm bored with cars, sports cars, anything with 4 wheels is so much excess baggage. My armchair on wheels is great for anything apart from mental thashing. So. Let us begin plotting the return to mania.

Right, the hotlist is;-

SV650
Z750
FZ600

Mmmm. I like the SV, good handling, but so little power! The Z750 looks great, but will it handle? The Yam, well... last few fell apart on me.

What you lot reckon?

I'm staying clear of Ninjas for a bit 'cos I value my life outside of prison !

Arrr... that's a good question. I think £5500 is about it, hence the models chosen.

I have tried being without 2 wheels, and it sucks. Seriously, I have had a very fast car, and while it amused 30% of the time, the rest it was jammed up in traffic. 70% wasted fun.

Test rode an SV when I had the VX, and found it good fun for only 70 horse. The Z1000 seemed a bit weedy for 1000cc, but I read that the 750 "feels" better, so may give that a go. I broke a Fazer g'box, and a Thunderace too, also blew the head gasket. I am not looking for a plodder bike again, the cruiser was crap no matter how I tuned it up.

Back in the saddle & can't wait for spring. Gonna have some fun.

If you can find a 5K bike 2nd hand that will excite, let me know.......

Oh, and my missus doesn't approve, but too bad. This is for me, so single seat maybe?

Why not push the boat out, you are only young once...

I noticed in last weeks MCN you can get a brand new 2003 GSXR1000R for around 7k, 185mph performance, although insurance could be a problem, I dunno....

insurance no prob! full NCB this year & old @ 36...

5 grand cash, or put down 2 as a deposit & go mad? hummm. I needed a break to appreciate what I had. Now I need to get back.

Minds made up. End of Feb or March. Unless I can get a good deal in the next few days. heh heh.

No matter what any fast car gives you in terms of thrills, it ain't a patch on a fast bike. That much I can tell you for free. Shame it took me so long to find out.

Agreed, now is the best time to buy a new bike, some of the deals around are superb.

Get a bike that you wont get bored riding within a couple of days, I love twins and a hell of a bike for not a lot of cash is the Honda Firestorm (my boss will kill me if he reads this as i'm a salesman in a Kwak, Aprilia, Benelli and CCM dealership)

Best of luck with whatever you decide on

I love my ZRX1100, they're about that for a low mileage 2nd hand, good motor, better at a lot of things than you'd think. Wouldn't recommend the VTR, but the VTR List'll make you think otherwise .

Carl,

You could get pre-registered SV1000's at around the 5k mark a while ago, can't see why that'd change either - so the 650 ought to be more like 4k. Spoke to a mate last night who recommended his Aprilia Falco as a bit of a bargain, some deals around the 4.5k mark at the moment. He did remark that he was thinking of downsizing to keep his license, so perhaps these aren't quite what you want. Whatever, there's definitely some bargains out there.

Cheers,

Steve

When I picked up my GSXR I seem to recall that they had new SV1000's at £5500. Another option??

They will probably be a load of pre registered Suzukis at the mo. As all the suzuki dealer were told to pre register their bikes so Suzuki would get the top Bike seller in 2003. Thats one reason why massive discounts on Suzuki range including the GSXR at £5k

Tim.

what about a Buell? or Ducati S4R?

I may be tempted with either in the spring, Buells apparently handle pretty well apparently.

SV 1000

I was tempted, but the extra £1000otr price, and the insurance being double seemed too much. I will have plenty of fun with the smaller engine. Plus I like single sided zorsts - easier to filter. AND I like to keep the front wheel on the ground...
