Hey guys,

As you may have seen from my Project thread, ive got an old 250cc off road bike. The project is getting ever nearer to being rideable (mainly just the brakes left!) so i need to start thinking about some kind of protective clothing - what would you recommend for off road riding?

Im thinking:

moto-x style helmet
goggles
gloves

plus maybe a spine board and kidney belt as im bound to crunch it!

Also, wheres the best place to buy? Im thinking the helmet ill need to get from a shop as i dont know what size i need - but gloves and goggles i can buy online i imagine - so anyone know a good website where i can order?

Cheers

Dave

Cheers mate. Theyve got some decent goggles, but i cant see any Crosser style helmets. Ill keep searching

Im not going to buy gloves now as ive remembered that ive got some ski types gloves which will keep my hands warm, and the grips on the bike have big plastic protectors to stop stones taking my fingers off

Dave,

The main function of gloves is to provide abrasion resistance in the event of an accident. Buy the best pair of gloves you can, um, lay your hands on.

I second that, I'd buy some proper bike gloves. Personaly I'd go for leather and not the thin sports bike gloves. With the crash helmet try a few on at your local store, rather than mail order, to make sure you get the right fit as different makes can have different shapes despite being marked the same size, sounds odd I know.

Good luck with the project, I've enjoyed reading about it!

Thanks mate, ill bear it in mind. I bought some kit yesterday - MDS motocross helmet (£80), Progrip goggles (£15 ex demo!) and Progrip MX gloves, in blue to match my lid

As you say though, Newbury isnt far - and i need some form of back protection soon.
