Who was 16 in the seventies and had a 50cc moped then? Can you remember the thing to have was a pre 76 coz they could do 60-65mph, anything later would only do 30mph. I had a Garelli 50, can you remember all the great mopeds back then?

Suzuki AP50
Yamaha FS1E (Fizzy)
Honda CB50
Raleigh Wisp (ROFL)
Derbi 50 (100mph allegedly)

Can anyone name anymore?

I had a Yamaha RD50 - the aircooled one, not the poncy LC. That got 'the treatment' and managed a very healthy 58mph on the flat. Once got 70mph out of it down a very steep hill - had very brown trousers at the bottom!

It was a constant quest to get that extra 1 or 2 mph, stripping weight off (the bike not me), lying flat with your nose on the dials, Happy Days.

There was also a Honda Express shopping thing and a mate actually bought a Honda Melody (step thru thing) because it had 12v electrics and he could fit air horns

My mates had AP50s and FS1Es - me? I had a Yamaha TY50 which was a trials moped. God, it looked the dogs. R Reg too - so unrestricted. My mates all had unrestricted ones as well except one who had a T reg white FS1E. Wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding as me dad'd say.

This was 1978 by the way ... under the PREVIOUS Labout govt ... not many on here will remember.

Mate got 60mph down Botley Hill into Oxford.

I had a Fantic GT50 (the same as the chopper pictured above bit in a sports bike style) and it was without doubt the fastest 'moped' in my area at the time.

Think the TY,RD and DT 50's of the time all shared the same frame and forks! I also had a white TY50 briefly before the RD.IIRC the fuel tank was tiny!

Somehow pedals never looked quite right, they looked a lot better with proper 'pegs' - but the trade off was the restriction.
